DUmmy Pedro Picasso Can't Afford Heat - In October!
« on: October 09, 2012, 03:00:36 PM »
Now that Pedro Picasso is unemployed, having been fired by his political junk mail company on the eve of a national election, he's at home all day, watching PMSNBC from breakfast til bedtime.

Of course the wife's still working, sort of like the Las Vegas Leviathan's situation, but with DUmmy Rob at home all day, they can't turn the thermostat down to 60 during the day.

So Rob is looking for magical free heat:

About to hang a ceramic panel heater. This could be interesting.
Has anyone seen these things? With oil near $4/gal up here in the northeast, we're looking to alternative heating sources. We've been using the fireplace, but that only heats the living room. We have a couple of those oil-filled plug-in radiators, which work for one room, but at 1500 watts, they're expensive as hell to run. Enter the ceramic wall panel.

It's just a big flat piece of ceramic with a plug coming out of it. It can be painted to match the walls, and some companies even sell them with fine-art paintings, like Van Gogh's Starry Night, pre-printed on them...just hang it like a piece of art. Some fancier ones can be hard-wired, but ours is a plug-in. And the best thing is, it uses only 400 watts at maximum heat setting, yet claims to heat 150 sqf. I've seen some online that use only 175 watts, but I think they're for smaller spaces.

I know it won't work for the entire winter, but with an "empty nest," it is crazy to pay $4/gal for oil to heat a 4-bedroom house when we really only use the master bedroom, kitchen and my studio. I'll report back!

A huge house with three empty bedrooms. Since Rob can't afford the heating bill, why doesn't he complete the transition to a LVL lifestyle and take in a boarder like Joe.

I suggest Rob shoot a PM to Kirk out there in Las Vegas for pointers on how to stretch a buck with a roommate.

2. I live in an old house with an old oil furnace.

Energy is energy, and you're going to pay either way. But at $4/gal for oil, this might be an option, because otherwise, with single-zone heat, I have to heat the entire house. And the garage. Sounds like it could help out. We'll see...with an initial investment of only $85, it might be worthwhile...certainly cheaper than re-doing the whole heating system.

Oooohh! I think that may be a little jab at Pedro!

These ceramic panels claim to give off the same heat with less than 1/3 the energy consumption. You still have to generate the power somewhere, so you're paying the electric company...but if I can target individual rooms and not have to heat an entire house, while leaving the oil furnace turned down to a minimal level, it just might work out! We'll see.

Same heat, one-third the energy!

Hey genius! Ever think about just closing the ****in' doors on the rooms ya don't wanna heat? Unless they have a bathroom, it won't hurt a bit!

Another suggestion. Buy a stinkin' insert for that useless fireplace! I have a wood stove, and with a little redirection with fans, I heat the whole house to the point we have to open doors and windows! We even get fresh air in the winter 'cause we can cook ourselves out!

DUmmies is so stooooopid! Well, after December 21st, we won't have to worry anyway. Anyone who can't figure out how to heat their house or feed themselves, deserves to go the way of the Mayans!

Hey DUmbass, energy is energy. Unless you have lots of convective heat transfer the oil heater will make the room just as efficient as the radiant panel unless you are directly in front of it. Even at that you would have to rotisserize yourself.

A watt is a watt is a watt.

Also, I hope you go broke following your stupid leftist utopian values.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Why is Atman so concerned about the price of heating oil?

Given the huge trust fund from his mother that he's always bleeding even though she's still around, he should be able to pay $10 a gallon for fuel oil without wincing.

No, not at all.

And with the nominations for the Top DUmmies of 2012 coming up in a few weeks, it's important to be able to know as much as one can about each primitive, so that one makes informed choices.  There'll be a couple of new rules in the nominating thread this year, to ensure that.

Atman, franksolich's evil twin (separated at birth; he got all the money and I got all the brains), is a trust-fund kiddie born and raised in some Levittown down in Florida, but with origins--and money--in New England, he moved there to become a caricaturist.

So how long before he post about his pipes busting during a cold snap? I know I have said this many times before but no ones been cold till they have spent time in someplace like Alaska in January/Febuary and when I was there back in 89 the wind chill was -114 and I know damn well Atman has never came close to having to deal with that .I also know that places in Germany and Korea get damn cold and those who have served there know a thing about freezing their asses off.

Any hints on said rules?

To be revealed Sunday afternoon November 18, until then, I must remain mum for ethical reasons.

The rules will come out that day, and nominations open up Thanksgiving Eve, the following Wednesday, November 21, around supper-time for those of us in the central time zone.

<<wants to be sure people have a chance to read the rules instead of jumping in right away and nominating.

But if it's any comfort for you, I doubt you yourself will have any problem following them, as you did even when they weren't the rules.

Pedro needs to contact Obama and ask for some of Obama's extra heat;

Quote
Although Mr Obama is famous for his "cool" demeanour, the temperature of the White House has been raised since he arrived – a result of the President's Hawaii roots, which made him favour an office so warm, his adviser David Axelrod joked to the "New York Times", that you could "grow orchids in there".

Pedro makes enough hot air all on his own, so that he doesn't need any help on his heating bills.

What??   :rotf:

Freeper knows what he's talking about.

A few weeks ago, I decided to quit being a nice guy, and tell others what I really think about the primitives.

In the past, I've been honest, but kind of, well, withheld things that I really wanted to say, but as they'd offend squeamish people, I desisted.  One goes along to get along.

But no more; I decided to quit the sissy girly-man don't-get-my-knees-dirty soccer and play rough-and-tough hard-scrabble rugby with the primitives.

Anyway, as to Atman, who's closing on 53 years of age; he's married, he's a father, and he recently had a grandchild.

However, Atman's charade is wearing thin.

Just as franksolich has found life too complicated masquerading as a hearing person, successfully fooling tons of people the past few decades, Atman too has found life too complicated masquerading as something he's not.
