Liberals know what we know: they're policies appeal to the self-indulgent and amoral. They cannot admit this up front because too many people will be morally repulsed and run them out of town.

So, instead they claim one seemingly innocuous this is a social injustice, i.e. gay rights.

Conservatives counter with slippery slope arguments, i.e. let the gays in today and you have no defense against the pedos tomorrow.

But then liberals counter that slippery slope arguments should be dismissed as slippery slope arguments. Since they're listed under logical fallacies they must be fallacous.

So then society must engage in discussions over gay rights which inevitably leads to discussions of what constitutes sexual orientation.

We're given a thousand assurances as to why there is no slope and why even if there were a slop it wouldn't be slippery all the while ignoring the fact that the subject at hand is not the start of the slope but the bottom to be avoided.

Once we claim "they're born that way" we admit it's "natural." The natural is nothing to be ashamed of, it cannot be immoral so it's perfectly acceptable discuss Heather having 2 mommies in the same venue we discuss the breeding habits of North American salmon.

Salmon have a sexual orientation. Humans have a sexual orientation too.

Right?

Quote
The following headline actually appeared at Gawker Friday: "Born This Way: Sympathy and Science for Those Who Want to Have Sex with Children."

The article, written by Gawker West Coast editor Cord Jefferson, was even worse (emphasis added throughout):

In an ABC News article from 2003, a corrections officer from Los Angeles told reporter Michael S. James that imprisoned pedophiles "usually don't make it" without protective custody. Leslie Walker, a prisoner's rights activist, told James, "[Child sex offenders] are at risk of being murdered, having their food taken, having their cells defecated and urinated in. Their life is truly a living hell." Good, most people will say. But there is a growing number of researchers, many of them out of Canada, whose work suggests that pedophilia is an illness deserving of the public's sympathy the way any brain disorder is. Some of the scientists say pedophilia is a sexual orientation, meaning that it's unchangeable, regardless of how much jail time or beatings or therapy someone is dealt. Others have reason to believe that pedophiles are born that way, and that some of them will suffer through entire lives without hurting a single child. If this research proves to be correct, it should help shape both our public policy and our public attitude, so that we're protecting kids while also protecting pedophiles from angry mobs, cellmates, and themselves.

That bears repeating: "[P]edophilia is an illness deserving of the public's sympathy...pedophilia is a sexual orientation."

Scary stuff. But it got worse:

Currently, there is no significant longitudinal evidence that pedophiles can be made to not be attracted to children, and thus it can be defined as their orientation. And if pedophilia is a sexual orientation, that also means it's futile to send pedophiles to prison in an effort to alter their attractions. Doing so is akin to sending a homosexual child off to a religious-based institution that claims it can "pray the gay away."

Isn't there a looting gene ? I was born with an intense desire to loot. I might also have a sacking and pillaging gene.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

I don't know if I have the pillage gene or if the carrying of the loot is canceled out by the lazy gene....but sacking, now I could get into some of that.

Yeah, we're just overreacting and it'll never happen...   :whatever:

If she wants to, I'm game.  I'm thinking about getting her one of the pink-stocked single-shot rifles that Savage makes.

My son has the black-stocked version of the same rifle.  He's picking up really good habits with that.

Right?

I really don't know what causes sexual choice.    Why do grown men desire sex with animals, or each other ?

Why do men and woman go for the blonds, red heads or dark haired ??   Some love the blue eyed others the brown, both seem to go gaga over a green eyed of the opposite sex.

As I have been around animals all my life I have noticed that some use sex as a power play, a controll issue wether humping someones leg or each other.  Only time I saw a cross species action was when my puppy tried to hump the ferret.

Rather then born that way could both male and female be acting out a control issue ?   What's with these grown woman, married with children that are in the news all the time for going after young boys ???

Right here we just had a trial for a 30 something lawyer that was pimping out her 13 year old daughter. Makes me wonder what the Hell they are putting in the milk these days.

So much easier in the past to watch out for the dirty old men be they homeless or a Banker, today we have to also watch out for the female friends, teachers Doctors and lawyers that our kids are around.

I know this from experience,  When I got my divorce my youngest was 5 years old, a girl.  Mother had warned me to check out who I dated as sometimes unscrupulous men were looking for woman with young kids.   I thought she was a nut, ----  until-----I met a man who loved kids, both the girl and the boys.

One day I met her teacher and she asked me about the boyfriend my daughter talked about.  Talk about cold chills running over you, that man was grooming my baby for sex .

I went home and took up watch and began to notice things I had ignored, he sitting next to her watching some cartoon show that a man his age would never watch alone.   She at 5 became jealous of any time we spent together without her, and began to resent me.    Her father seldom visited or paid any attention to the kids but this guy did.

After a  couple days of watching and trying to accept what was going on, off he went into the wild blue yonder.
Just a get the hell out and don't come back or you will be arrested for tresspassing did the trick.

Hell of a lesson for me, I had not to my knowledge met any monsters out there, Yes I had heard naturally they were around but never expected to run into one.

I really believe it is us who have lived a sheltered life, we who have little knowledge of Evil that are the ones at risk.     The Street smart and kids that come from homes that may be turbulent, they are the survivors.

The Good Lord was guiding this teacher to inform me of what could have been a disaster.    Thanks to the Teacher for speaking up.    Such a small thing that changed our lives.

It would seems so.

At first I thought she was just insane, then I got the feeling that she was actually messing with me; turns out she is that batshit crazy.

I don't think she's quite insane. Mildly disturbed, perhaps. Even slightly batshit crazy, but not insane.

And franksolich is correct. Once in a great while, Vesta comes in with a zinger that actually makes sense. Of course, extracting that out of her not-so-epic rants is somewhat difficult. To be honest, I don't read but maybe one-quarter of what she posts because I can feel my arteries harden as I do so, but once in awhile even a blind squirrel will find a nut.

She does add a bit of character to the forum. NHSparky knows her, evidently, from previous history.

Another thing about vesta - you could be 78 years old, but you'll still be a young'un to her - a mere child. Yet she talks about her mother, so it's not she's quite arrived in the Land of Dementia though perhaps she's knocking at the Door.
