This struck me as odd:

One wonders what compels the big guy to say that.

You're right.

It appears the big guy's a name-dropper.

We first met when his home was threatened to be torn down to make way for a new performing arts center downtown 10 years ago. He said his name (Simon on the social register) and the thought I had was he is involved with a meat company. I just didn't clue in Omaha Steaks.

So what. I worked at the place where Mr Simon lives years ago. I also worked selling cutco knives for a short time. The only way they are sold to the public is door to door. Then once a sale is made the ysend you a catalog once in a great while to let you know whats new. They are very good knives and He should be glad he got them becasue a basic set cost big bucks. The Essentials + 5 set which I got for my Mom for $350 about ten years ago now goes for $440 dollars. They are guarunteed for life and they will resharpen them if they go dull which could happen but it takes time. Depending on What OS got he should treat them with the care they deserve and they will last a very long time. My mom hasn't had to sharpen one knife in her set since I got them for her.

Shouldn't you actually buy the product to support the Union as opposed to winning a Union made product for free?

My mother still has a set that she bought about 20 years ago, they are still sharp & work great.

I went to the Jr. High School prom with a Boulder CO resident that later went on to become a Victoria's Secret model, then she married Harry Connick Jr.  Big effing deal Steve, you know people in high places, we are all suitably impressed.

Whoa, wait a minute.  You took that chick to the prom?  Get outta here!  She's beautiful, but never ever smiles.  Did you get a smile out of her?   :naughty:

I once dated a Harry Connick Jr. look-alike, so take that, Steve.      Cute, but a California flake.

They are great knives.

My mother still has a set that she bought about 20 years ago, they are still sharp & work great.

I can tell you from experaince tha tthose knives are very sharp. When I took on a second job back in 2003 as a dish washer at a local resturant I was cutting slices from toamatoes for BLT sandwiches and even though I thought I was carefull I still stuck the end of my thumb with one of the bigger knives I had from my owm demo set I was using at the resturant. I ended up with three stitches in the end of my left thumb and it hurt worse to have them put in then the actual accident. And if you ever get the feeling of wantiin to cut penny's in half they have a pair of scissors that will do that and still stay sharp enough to keep cutting to.

Cutco is or was part of the same company that is Ka-Bar and Ontario Knives in New York.

Suitably impressed. Ouch.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

We've had a set of Cutco knives for many years.

They've been back to the manufacturer several times for sharpening, and as far as I can tell they're as good as new.

Great knives, I guess, although I'm not partial to serrated edges.

The good news is a knife that is made in the USA the keeps a few jobs here is a very good product. I can over look the fact they are union made. Just my opinion.

I bought a set of three made in Germany knives that were very expensive and turned out to be junk.

I was able to look up my parent's old address when they bought the knives and find her account number.

I'm going to send her knives in for sharpening.

This turned out to be a very helpful thread, thank you.

I found another tidbid on the "buy union" web page:

Chick-Fil-A only uses "union" meat.  :lmao:  The boycot did not sound like a very good idea   http://www.lalabor411.org/index.php?option=com_sobi2&sobi2Task=sobi2Details&catid=253&sobi2Id=8654&Itemid=53

I can understand but it is the serrated edge that makes those knives as sharp as they are. The company holds a copyright patent on the design of their particular edge because it is so good at what it does.  I know others do to but Cutcos design is very officiants in how it cuts. They told us in training that it shouldn't take more then one or two passes with their knives to slice or cut any meat you are serving ,where as I have seen other makers knives take many slices or cuts to get through your average steak.

Scroll down to see about the Double D edge they use.
