Samantha, what people like you don't understand is that people like me - American but rational - don't care whether you want a mosque near 9/11 or not.  This is America.  Read your Constitution.  If property goes up for sale and a religious group buy it, renovate it and use it for religious purposes, it's none of your business.  I don't care if it gives you hives and makes you lose sleep at night - thinking that these people are praying too close your favorite massacre site.  This is America.  Private property is private property.  Deal with it.

I'm glad this was built. It would be the height of hypocrisy to deny the right to have a mosque, church, temple, etc in that area. So many Muslims worked hand in hand with non-Muslims to help with the clean up, to provide tips before and after to help prevent terrorist incidents and are just generally as innocent a person as any neighbor on your street. We are the land of the free, home of the brave, a country that set itself apart first and foremost for it's freedom of speech and freedom of religion. It would violate the ideals we hold most dear to let an emotional reaction to the atrocious acts of a few extremists that are NOT representative of the many taint our freedoms, our fairness, our justice or turn us into cowards that fear to embrace our brethren instead of the brave the embrace all faiths in peace.

We can never let the acts of terrorists warp us into behaving as badly as they do, into hating like they do.

Try convincing your same ideology to the assh*les that killed thousands of innocent people who on that day, just went to work to make a living,just walked down the street, grabbed a taxi , or was just going home. They didn't have a choice as to whether they should live or die. If being a Muslim is SOOOO great then why would people who oppose it  have to die "in the name of allah" ?? Other religions like Buddhists, Christians , Hindus, etc . don't kill people to convince and convert non believers to be apart of their religion . They allow the religion to draw believers.  Also, I know for a fact that if it was the other way around and Christians were trying to build Churches in  Iraq, Iran, or any other country in the Middle East, they wouldn't allow it . Christians in those countries( the few that are there) would face ridicule, threats and death if they tried to build a church and we wouldn't hear about it because  the media wouldn't  report it.   Every time, we have to turn the other cheek  when people who clearly don't like Christians and/or Americans hurt us . If the shoe was on the other foot and we did exactly what they have done to us, you will really see how much of a "True Muslim" they are.
