In spite of the stupidity of their scenario, it does raise an interesting question about what would happen if either party's candidate died after nomination but before the general election, a circumstance which I do not believe has ever come to pass in our history. Without actually looking up anything on it, I would suppose the election proceeds and the VP would be sworn in as VP, then immediately after as President, on Inauguration Day if the decedent's party won (And Americans seem oddly fond of electing a dead guy out of sympathy, even if he was sucking hind tit when campaigning in the flesh, judging by some gubernatorial and Senate races over the past few election cycles), and then after that point the former-VP/now-President would go through the process to select a new VP in the same manner Nixon did with Agnew when Agnew had to resign.
