Will zombo help me decide which car to buy?

The 1973 MG B or the 1978 Datsun 280Z?

Do you know a hot young woman who is good with MGBs?  If not, go with the Datsun.

Agreed. Besides, I like that name "Datsun" better than "MG" or even "Nissan."

Don't despair, hon. He's gonna buy the Datsun simply because getting parts is easier.

I would go with the MGB. Then I always wanted to buy a 1979 MGB and restore it.

Do you know that Nissan is considering a re-releasing of the datsun? More info: http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2012/03/02/nissan-reportedly-considering-revival-datsun-name/

Yes, I was aware of that.  From what I've read, it's limited to underdeveloped countries like Indonesia and India where the Datsun name is already known and Nissan doesn't already have a large market share.  The plans I read were to sell sub-$10,000 cars to "underserved" markets.

There is a business in Carlisle PA that specializes in MG's. They can get practically any part you need for them.

That I didn't know. I guess we won't be seeing them here in the US then.

Nope, never heard of 'em.

Are those parts easier to get from a junkyard rather than online?

And then this cute little nugget from the BMH web site:

PRICES    All Suggested Retail Prices include VAT @ 20%.

Having to pony up 20% VAT for parts ordered through these guys might be prohibitive.

Victoria British is in Lenexa, KS.  Their prices are pretty reasonable.

Well, then! There's your answer!

But again, as you often have reported on these pages, you tend to get many of the parts you need from junk yards. How many of those MG parts are you gonna find in a junk yard?

Not many.  My regular self-service place has a "classic" section but rarely any MGs.

Oh. Mah. Gawd.  That MG was incredible.  I was halfway back home before I stopped smiling.

The car comes came equipped with POWER NOTHING at no charge.  You got to warn a brother.  I haven't driven a car without power steering in 25 years.  Manual brakes?  Never.  This is definitely not a high-speed automobile... or you should at least learn to plan ahead.

This thing runs like a top.  New clutch, transmission feels like a tank.  It's going to be a tough choice if the Datsun is this nice.

My only complaint?  The top of the windshield sits in the middle of my field of view and the steering wheel blocks my view of the gauges.  I'm going to have to see if I can find a shorter/lower seat bracket.  I don't need to be able to move the seat since I only fit in the car one way, with the seat all the way back.  I'm sure I can find something.

I think my left arm finally stopped twitching.

That Datsun was pretty rough.  It looks nice from five feet away, but every corner has rust poking through, the clutch was an absolute mess, the car had no power steering (and was nowhere near as nice as the manual steering on the MG), and the brakes squealed like a liberal getting their pet entitlement program shut down.

I've called Raj twice asking him to let me buy the MG from him on Saturday.  I just hope nobody snatches it up before then.
