       A billionaire Chicago family that has donated and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for President Obama got a deal from the federal government to avoid paying all of a $460 million settlement it agreed to in the 2001 failure of a Chicago-area bank it owned, while 1,400 former depositors are still owed more than $10 million in lost savings.

And now, 11 years later, the prospect that any of the depositors will get their money back is bleak.

The Pritzker family, which made its fortune in hotels and manufacturing, agreed to a $460 million settlement offer in December 2001 to avoid sanctions and civil lawsuits in the failure of Superior Bank in Hinsdale, Ill.

But after paying $316 million of the interest-free debt, the family quietly struck a deal with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) in June 2011 to discount the balance in return for paying off the debt early.

“We have been stiffed again,” said Fran Sweet, 67, a depositor still owed $70,000. “It is a lot to lose. We are not wealthy people. We are white-collar and blue-collar workers who saved this money, [or] thought we saved this money.”

John W. Courtney, 67-year-old Vietnam veteran and construction worker still owed $50,000, said, “I worked hard for the money. [The Pritzkers] signed an agreement that got them off the hook, and now they are backpedaling. A deal is a deal. Who gave the FDIC the right to discount the note?”

Egypt's highest court declares parliament invalid
[Updated at 11:09 a.m. ET] Egypt's highest court on Thursday declared the parliament invalid, and the country's interim military rulers declared full legislative authority, triggering a new level of chaos and confusion in the country's leadership.

The Supreme Constitutional Court also ruled that a former member of President Hosni Mubarak's regime may run in a presidential election runoff this weekend.

The ruling on parliament means that it must be dissolved, state TV reported. An Egyptian constitutional law expert told CNN that following the court's decision, a political decision will be made about what steps to take next.

Parliament had been in session for just over four months.

The court found that all articles making up the law that regulated parliamentary elections are invalid, said Showee Elsayed, a constitutional lawyer.

The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, in control of the country since Mubarak's ouster, announced that it now has full legislative power and will announce a 100-person assembly that will write the country's new constitution. The court's rulings come a day after Egypt's military-led government imposed a de facto martial law, extending the arrest powers of security forces.

I don't think Obama "bungled" this— His actions indicate this outcome was pretty close to his desire. He hasn't been very concerned about Iran and I don't think he minds another militarized Islamic enemy of Israel— or the United States for that matter! As I recall, he was rooting for the "Arab Spring" not very long ago. Saying he "bungled" national policy this badly implies he is an imbecile. He's not!

Liberty and a republican (not the party but the concept) form of government is European in its origin. An authoritarian regime was best suited to Egypt and when the Islamist s take control, you can bet your life it will be authoritarian, just like Iran. Herein is another example where our president has bungled it, Egypt, which was an ally, now a potential enemy and another "Iran". All of North Africa is going the way of radical Islam, another bungle by Obama. Russia is closely allying itself with Syria beginning to send troops (like Afghanistan in 1980). I was in college during Carters regime, this is like deja vu.

Ah, remember back when the main stream media and the Obama administration was feeling the joy over the Arab Spring? They were all teary eyed over the spread of freedom and democracy. At the same time Laura Logan was being molested by gangs of freedom loving Egyptian men? Almost beyond all sense of logic and reason, They were both telling us that Al Jazeera was now a main stream news network and the Muslim Brotherhood were..... moderates? Fundamentalist are not moderates. Which means, there are no moderate Brothers (are there any "Sisters" in the Brotherhood) or moderate Taliban either. It's hard to tell who the enemies of America are.

Way to pick winners, Obama. You have such a startling ability to be on the very wrong side of every single decision.

Eygpt is Doing Fine
Obama's foreign policy initatives in the Middle East are working out as expected. It appears that Obama's handles foreign policy as well as he handles the US economy.

Obama did a great job masterminding this one. He got rid of Mubarak, who was a U.S. ally, and set it up for the Islamists to take over in a "democratic" election. Instead, Egypt now has a new military dictatorship. Looks more like the return of Nassar than a democracy. Pathetic!!

Egyptian military timed this with the understanding that the US would not intervene seriously ahead of a US election.
