I listened to Knebel's interview on the local conservative radio station. I also read the platform of the other candidate, Carmichael. There are a great deal of local issues the big guy isn't even addressing, which makes me wonder if he even reads the news there.
Knebel is a libertarian party guy to the core. He is fully supported by the Nebraska branch, and his allegiance to Dr. Nutz is more than disturbing. That said, he is harmless as a city councilor and I believe is an attractive candidate to this position to voters who are tired of the tax and spend economy.
Real change starts at the local level. Knebel understands that. Houghtaling is a ghost. He must feel confident his seat is secure.
I haven't seen a peep of the other (R) candidate, Carmichael, the retired city employee, and so just reasonably assumed he was counting on his connections to get him at least second in the primary, and thus on the November ballot.
Houghtaling, the first (R) candidate, and the incumbent, appears to have a public reputation as a confident, competent guy. And he is currently chairman of the city council. I'm sure his thinking is he'll be one of the two top winners in the primary anyway, so no use in expending much effort until the actual campaign.
Knebel, the (L) candidate,
really wants the job, and seems to be the one working the hardest. If "effort" were the same as "outcome," he'd easily be number one of the four, in the primary returns. But he's a dreamer; his self-imposed (L) hurts him. I'm hoping to God he at least finishes over the big guy.
The usual
caveat: conservativecave, individual members of conservativecave, and the friends of Steve Dawes, whoever and wherever they are, have
no connections, no connections whatsoever, personal, commercial, social, political, with any of the three abovementioned candidates.
