More proof that the DUmp's hive think is really, really bad for a person's psyche.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

The DUers had a thread going last week concerning how they did not believe that people could be so shallow as to avoid friends and relatives because they supported a different political candidate. Some woman was bemoaning the fact that a few of her friends tried to do an 'intervention' on her because she was a Hillary supporter. They told her that they couldn't be friends with her if she didn't switch to Obama. Many of the DUers thought she made up the story to put Obama supporters in a bad light. Their logic? In a nut shell they didnt' believe that any one would disown a friend or relative over politics.

Yeah, well, that was last week and this in this week.

Not only that, it was disowning fellow Democrats last week, which by its very definition is anathema to them.  This week, it's disowning the "evil Rethugs," so it's okay.

I truly find that watching what passes for logic being expressed on DU is one of the best forms of entertainment on the planet. And just think, all this is free!

Be careful -- if they see your post they will try to devise a way to tax it...

37. I think I have the best story!
Edited on Sun May-11-08 11:16 PM by Renaissance Man
My aunt visited my grandmother about a month ago when my grandmother went in for surgery and some family just happened to be in town (worried about grandmother of course) and after grandma came out of surgery, the family started discussing politics.

So...some family "happened" to be there? Well, good thing since grandma was having surgery. My grandmother had a heart attack and surgery last summer...I went to stay with her "on purpose". We had tons more to talk about besides politics.

Quote
There was grandma, somewhat reclined in her favorite chair, after the family was discussing Sen. Obama and the primaries when an aunt (grandma's daughter) of mine stated, "Well, (her husband) and I are Republicans!" Shit hit the fan, and whatever pain medicine grandma was taking must have not been strong.

*Note: Grandma is an African-American woman, born in the Jim Crow South.

Grandma and adult daughter are just now sharing their political affiliation? I pretty much know what my family members believe. A few decades of conversation will do that.

Quote
So, as the story goes, after my aunt's declaration of being a Republican, grandma tells her, "How could you be so got-damn stupid?"
At this point, I'm literally biting my tongue trying to hold laughter.

So "as the story goes"? Were you there or hearing this second hand (or perhaps just making things up as you go along? I suppose grandma could've called her daughter "got-damn stupid", but I guess even the moonbats in my family have a little more class because they just wouldn't say something that mean and insulting.

Aunt answers, "Well, the Republicans are against abortion?"

Yeah, people are Republican because of only one issue.

Quote
Grandma says, "Yeah, they're so pro-life, but they don't have a problem with sending 4,000 soldiers off to die in a war over a lie?"

Dead silence. I think that the aunt was given a harsh pill to swallow.

And the money quote that reveals this story to be the bullshit it truly is. That "sending 4,000 soldiers off to die in a war over a lie" is a phrase repeated, verbatim, daily on DU. Oh, and for future reference when you decide to make up another story, screeching DU talking points just isn't intimidating nor is it going to make daughter change her point of view...being a Republican, "aunty" hears it all the time and sees it on the bumper stickers of Volvos, Toyota hatchbacks, and hybrids every day.

Do you avoid Repug relatives?
   Advertisements [?]

I just don't feel guilty anymore about making up excuses to avoid having to attend family functions that occur at Republican relatives homes. I cannot break bread with these people any longer. Engaging in small talk to avoid any confrontation regarding politics at these events has become something I dread. The Republican outlook on life with its self centered ideology of wanting to live in a "me" society is entirely foreign to me.

First of all you freak, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, "feelings", and political lifestyle. I was under the impression from you DUmmy freaks that this was the "Progressive Way". How mighty intolerant of you.
Secondly, your disdain of anyone, especially family that do not tow the leftist regime line is blatantly "me, me, me" centered!
Hypocrisy anyone?
Trust me, you are doing your family, the sane moral people in your genetic pool, a big favor by removing your asinine behavior from their lives. If I had a family member like you, I would see to it that you were the first person invited to all family gatherings - just to piss you off!
