Obama says Fossil Fuels are a thing of the past? Really?
« on: March 08, 2012, 01:14:56 PM »
Obama has stepped in it again trying to make GOP candidates look bad for having what he calls "Phony" gas plans. Well Mr. President (I say full tongue in cheek) my car doesn't agree with you that gas is a thing of the past and that green energy is now. Until you can supply me with a vehicle that uses water or whatever to run, other than fossil fuel, for less than $80,000, I'd say fossil fuels are a thing of the present and you'd better start doing something to help me be able to afford to drive my car!! Really, I mean he's done everything he can to drive gas prices up. Yeah he's for green energy, that's great, but it ain't here yet, so we have to deal with reality!!!

At best owebuma knows only one aspect of the law of supply and demand.

With any luck at all and a good dose of common sense from the voters Obama will soon be a thing of the past.

I seem to recall that in 2008, just the MENTION of drilling domestically brought prices down.

I also understand that a change of just a few percentage points can drastically affect the price of a commodity both up and down.

So why NOT increase our domestic production?  We peaked in the early 1970's.  Our domestic production level is the same as it was in the late 1940's, when the population of this nation was HALF what it is today.  Even increasing our production by 15-20 percent would send prices tumbling.  OPEC knows this.  We know this.  Tapping the strategic reserve is bullshit, because that oil has to be put back eventually.

Yes, Obama--drill here, drill now.  What's so ****ing difficult about that?

Probably about the same time they get their eviction from public housing.

Until you can supply me with a vehicle that uses water...

That would cause a water shortage.

Yes, but burning them usually requires an environmental impact statement beforehand, or superfund-level damage control after the fact.

Let's just harvest the oil they produce, for now.

It's usually easier going straight to the patchouli plant for that.

Not to mention a fine of $10,000 levied by the EPA with an appeal option, but that takes 6-8 months to process.

Well he should step up to the plate and lead by example.  For starters, I suggest he park that big shiny 747 he uses as his own personal airline because the last time I checked and from my experience as an aircraft crew chief in the USAF,  jet engines use fossil fuel.  Lots and lots of it.

I don't think he wants to burn em as is. As you point out, it's way too messy. I think he just wants to harvest them and render them down for oil, like we used to do with whales.
