(at least the way many people practice it) is that, because by very definition it's unprovable, its adherents have to rely on faith alone. The basic tenets of any religion, including not only the existence of a supreme being or beings but the behaviors required of humans by said being(s), are ultimately the products of human believers. The believers believe because humans told them to. Since they have no way to prove objectively that what they believe is true, rather than allowing doubts they dig in harder - the more they are challenged the more adamantly they insist what they believe is true.

Not only that, people who believe something different (with equal intensity) are not just wrong but deluded, even evil or satanic. Religious beliefs can become such a central part of a person's identity that any doubt by others (or the person him/herself) is unbearable. For people like that, their religion has to be an integral part of their entire universe, including, maybe even especially, their government. When that happens all hell breaks loose.


Ocelot has just held up an almost completely perfect mirror of DU.  Belief due to human efforts only, no way to prove everything, digging in rather than considering facts, considering the "enemy" to be completely evil instead of realizing that disagreement does not make "_____phobes," finding any doubt completely unbearable, needing their belief-system to the be foundation of their government.  Poor, frightened little whiners, clinging to their Democratic masters and their hatred of the "others."

The primitives don't want to acknowledge that there's things and a Being more powerful--All-Powerful, in fact, and Infinite--than the miserable worms they are.

They prefer to think they can know all, do all.

As you might have grasped from a thread in the Sandhills forum, I've been at all too many deathbeds, full of both sorrow.....and contempt for those who believe man-perceived science, medicine, and technology can save them.

And this absurd belief that things they don't understand, don't exist.

No need to have a Hell, as denial of God is Hell Itself.

Socialists are particularly disposed to hate people of faith. It interferes with the worship of the state as provider of all things.

Just like there are many different kinds of faith, so are there different brands of atheism.
The kind on display at DU is not defined by a lack of belief, but rather rebellion. Like Satan, they want to overthrow God and place themselves in His place.

Further they know they are depraved. So they lie to themselves, that there is no God. But secretly, they believe and tremble. It is this fear of a righteous God that drives their hate and desire to stamp out all belief in Him.

Primitives hate that religion (like many freedoms) is protected in the constitution and untouchable by them.

Freedom of religion, speech, to bear arms, to peacefully assemble, all these things are the opposite of what the DUmmies want. Give Obama an opportunity (like a 2nd term) and they will destroy as much of our freedom as they can.

Not to mention those pesky 10 commandments and other moral religious teachings. If you have a set of unchanging values throughout centuries it is impossible for the state to make you change those to suit the feel good policies of the day.
