sinkingfeelingView profile Brad Manning has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Sign petition here.http://act.rootsaction.org/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=5459Let's Get Bradley Manning the Nobel Peace PrizeThe Nobel Peace Prize is supposed to go to "the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."Three members of Parliament in Iceland have nominated Bradley Manning and laid out the case:"Manning is a soldier in the United States army who stands accused of releasing hundreds of thousands of documents to the whistleblower website WikiLeaks. The leaked documents pointed to a long history of corruption, war crimes, and imperialism by the United States government in international dealings. These revelations have fueled democratic uprising around the world, including a democratic revolution in Tunisia. According to journalists, his alleged actions helped motivate the democratic Arab Spring movements, shed light on secret corporate influence on our foreign policies, and most recently contributed to the Obama Administration agreeing to withdraw all U.S.troops from the occupation in Iraq."Few have done more. A number of previous peace laureates have done far less.
TheWraith6. One, petitions are not recognized by the Nobel committee.Second, neither are the "nominations" made by outside parties. Being "nominated" carries exactly no weight whatsoever.Reply to this postResponse to TheWraith (Reply #6)Tue Feb 14, 2012, 03:52 PMStar Member broiles7. Yes, but signing it made me feel good. n/tResponse to broiles (Reply #7)Tue Feb 14, 2012, 03:57 PMStar Member EFerrari9. And developing the habit of engagement would be bad. Can't have that.Response to EFerrari (Reply #9)Tue Feb 14, 2012, 04:11 PM TheWraith13. An internet petition is not "engagement." It's the opposite of that, actually. It's pushing a button to feel like you're doing something without actually doing anything.Response to TheWraith (Reply #13)Tue Feb 14, 2012, 04:35 PM EFerrari18. Which demonstrates your expertise in the field of habit forming. Thanks again. n/tView profile
Zhade11. Indeed. A far more deserving candidate than Obama was.I suspect Obama was awarded with great hope for the future of peace with him in office.Drone attacks and the assassination of an innocent American teenager probably has some who gave it to him feeling pretty let down.Manning is a true hero, and I hope he gets the recognition he deserves.
monmouth16. Bad, bad Obama. Who was it got Bin Laden again? I doubt he personally isin charge of drone attacks and assassinations but have at it...(Meanwhile Bush was in control of everything in the Universe, including rainfall and the temperature.Response to monmouth (Reply #16)Tue Feb 14, 2012, 04:48 PMBelieve It23. You think Obama should get a second peace prize award? How about one for civil liberties! Ouchie!Response to monmouth (Reply #16)Tue Feb 14, 2012, 09:43 PMprogressoid33. Exactly.Just like Nixon was not personally in charge of anything regarding Vietnam or Cambodia.
There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site
Bradley Manning is a ****ing traitor who deserves this treatment:The sooner the better.
The only Nobel he deserves is stick of old Alfred's finest up his ass with a lit fuse and a cap in it.
I think the blindfold is unnecessary, actually.
"The nation that couldn’t be conquered by foreign enemies has been conquered by its elected officials" odawg Free Republic in reference to the GOP Elites who are no difference than the Democrats
Hanging is better for traitors.
Benedict Arnold just signed the petition. In fact, Mr. Arnold thinks that there should be a retroactive Nobel Peace Prize given to him.
First they give one to a con-man and now they want one for a traitor.....soon all god's chillins will have a No-Bell Piece prize.
sinkingfeelingFew have done more. A number of previous peace laureates have done far less.
I can think of one laureate in particular who had done less when given the award...and then went on to spread peace by launching a needless war in Libya.
Hanging is more environmentally friendly. You can reuse that rope...
When Manning receives his Nobel, hand him the invention of the prizes namesake, lit.
Can you beat someone to death with a Nobel prize?
Julius Rosenberg added his name, too.
