I always hated the show because it was formulaic to the point of qualifying as a substitute for the Chinese water torture and I'm no friend of the CSA from the American Civil War but the mania of these "people" is reaching absurd levels:

When I was younger I did watch Dukes. I know that it was geared towards kids during the middle of the 1st season.
 
Now that I'm older and more politically aware am I being bias against the show?

My husband started to collect the show on DVD. his little cousin when they come over our interested in watching the show. I am concerned only because their parents are well Fundie/conservative/well racist people at times. I think they only tolerate me being around their kids because I am a great last minute babysitter and the girls do enjoy being around me.
 
So am I being rude here and judging a show from 30 years ago on today's standards? Or should I just relax and let the kids enjoy a show that is probably less violent than most of the cartoons shown today?

I haven't seen the show in years, and by and large I don't remember there being a lot of minority characters in the show. However, I do have a (vague, but I think genuine--as I've said, it's been a while since I've seen it) memory of the Duke family being critical of racist attitudes in an episode. I don't recall the Dukes themselves engaging in racist behaviors or language, though it's possible that they did.
 
But the use of confederate symbols such as that racist flag does seem to advance of a myth of a confederate heritage that is independent of that racial baggage, which is itself inaccurate and unfortunate.

I always thought is was because the Confederate flag was a cool looking design on a show about vapid sensationalism.

Shows how much I know.

And there are a lot of problems that have nothing to do with pandering to the 'stupid and backwards.' Such, oh I don't know, the lack of regulation and enforcement on Wall St. That's about as far from 'stupid and backwards' as you can get.
 
For the record, I remember almost nothing about the show itself. But I do remember loving the car as a young child and having the toy.

I liked the DoH while growing up for 3 reasons.
1. Car chases.
2. Dynamite on arrows.
3. Daisy.

I would bet that at least 2 of those are on most people's top 3 reasons they watched as well.

I watched. I was a kid. Stuff blew up. Cars jumped all kinds of stuff. Daisy helped make my voice change.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the Dukes of Hazzard were popular during the CARTER era, not Reagan. I remember one episode specifically where President Carter calls Uncle Jesse because of his moonshine-to-gasoline ideas.

I'll take them seriously when they want to talk about all the afrocentric shows of the late 80's and 90's that had very few white characters and when they did they were mostly portrayed as morons. The Dukes of Hazzard of all things. In my recollect, you think they'd like how those boys ran circles around that 1%er Boss Hog and his 'army' of cops under 'Cooter'. You think DUmmies would like the theme of regularly pulling one over on the cops and the rich man, but shrug.

Wonder if they realize how often they talk about race. They're focused on it "like a laser". Only racists see everything in terms of black and white. And these people look for reasons to voice their sympathy...of course those who protest the loudest and all that.

Later on Coy and Vance replaced bo and luke as the dynamic duo. why i have no idea!

Ye'old stars and bars never bothered me, that is their heritage for the love of heavens.  When will the liberal North head south to desecrate the cemetery's with the CSA symbol on the graves of those that died in the war???

Next we know the Saint Patricks Day Parade will be picketed by the Orange Irishmen descendants.   I will pay good money to watch that rumble.  

  What's a the matter with you people that want us to forget history or deny anyone their right to be proud of their ancestors from 150 years ago ???  

Stand back and watch what happens if we tell the Italians they cannot place the flag of Italy on their cars because the Italians tried to beat us all up in WW2.  

I have allot of French in me and Brit, some sniveling Liberal tell me they are offended by the Flags as a bumper sticker as we fought the French Indian wars or the Revolution,  I just may have to learn real fast how to pee standing up and wet down their shoes.    Clean up on Isle 4 .

I must admit I did buy a tee shirt with Shermans Whore on it while in Georgia but never wore it, not that I was afraid to but with public education as it is, few kids or adults have any idea who the General was.

Comes down to heritage, we need to respect others and if others are offended, that is their problem.  BTW, the OWS thinks nothing of burning Old Glory, the very symbol of their, in their time freedom.  These Liberals are NUTS.
