I'll smoke a turkey on Wednesday, and then on Thursday we're going to our son's place (with his wife, whom our daughter and I hate from 5 years ago - won't go into it here). Our daughter is invited, too; we're on exactly the same page re: son's wife.

Should be interesting. My wife and I are taking separate cars. Take no action if you see a mushroom cloud over Chicago's south suburbs.  ::)

Going to the folks house on Thursday afternoon for lunch. Then, heading to Stroud, OK that afternoon for a little hunting/football action for a couple of days before coming back.

Do they do anything special for the employees that don't get to spend the evening with their families?

Well there's the double time we get paid to work that day.  Thats kinds special.  Plus since my dept is back stage, we usually fire up the BBQ and have a pot luck.  This year we are going to BBQ a turkey on our Weber.

The turkey that the President pardons every year ends up at either Disneyland or Disney World.  The one from last year is housed in a pen not too far from our work area.  If by chance that turkey goes missing after this Thrusday, don't come asking me any questions.  I won't know anything about it....

No plans. Such is the life of being without family. I do have a couple of invites from a couple of friends, but I haven't made any decisions, yet.

I'm just glad that the hospital gave you a (relatively) clean bill of health, so that you'll be AROUND for another Thanksgiving.

Well, being in the business of retail, I have to work 2 pm to 11 pm (my boss is on crack!!)on wednsday nite and drive down to NH for a few hours to have thanksgiving with family and friends, then drive home to work at 8 am on Black Friday.

I really shouldn't complain, alot of people i work with had three days off, whereas I only have two. I am so very glad and appreciative that I have a job...

Chris, it is.

Hey, Jess, no one knows . . . except all of us. O-)

I'll be singing with the Combined Choirs at my church for 10 AM Mass (it'll be the last Mass we do under the old Roman Missal).  We'll have the usual full church on Thanksgiving Day.  Then, it's up to my sister's place about three miles from my parents, for the usual family madhouse that is ostensibly Thanksgiving Day dinner.  It's going to be quite the time.  I'm going deer hunting the next day, for the weekend.  Three years ago, one of our members shot two 10-pointers the day after Thanksgiving.

We're sitting tight this year, both Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Year's...for which I'm quite thankful, I really don't care for Winter holiday travel, and doubly so when having to get back on a definite date/time for work is in the mix.

I'm flying to Dallas tonight and will be there until Saturday afternoon.  The big Thanksgiving get together will be at my parents' house, with my brother frying a turkey, and the rest of us spending the day in the kitchen cooking and enjoying time together.  Can't wait!

D-Land between Thanksgiving and Christmas...bearable because of the turkey legs and chimis that you can only get that time of year.

Scoobie and I are doing the home thing for Turkey Day itself, then Friday-Sunday I'm dragging her kicking and screaming to NYC while her mom watches the kids.

I did forgot to add  to last posts a new tradition in my family.

For the last 5 years I add an extra plate for the souls of the service men and woman that will never have a chance to join us.  Just that empty plate and all the bounty we have brings home the sacrifice they made for us.

Some in the family think I am NUTS to do this, but to me it has been a 5 year long tradition that gives me peace.    A way to remember and an in your face to those that never think that this dinner is because of their sacrifice. The sacrifice of all ancestors that died to allow us to partake of this meal.

What is Thanksgiving. but to not only thank  God for America .but for the blood sweat and tears shed to allow us in today's word to, live today as free .

Is this Pagan to feed the dead I have been asked, perhaps, but I am not feeding the dead, I am just placing a plate to remember the souls that cannot join us.  To remember the people that cannot join us due to their sacrifice for us to be able to partake of this dinner.

Gives the kids something to think about, Thanksgiving is a day to thank everyone for their safety and life, not just a day to pig out.

There will all ways be an extra plate for those that died to insure I have food, even if I am alone living under a bridge and homeless.

God Bless America and those that died to allow me to live here.

That is a very nice tradition, Vesta.  I've enjoyed reading about everyone's plans.  We're travelling north 2 hours for the family get-together up there (different place every year), about 40 of us.  Have to work on Friday, then during the weekend, the Christmas decorations start to gradually go up.  Maybe get a jump on the cards?

Seabelle, good luck and take care during Black Friday!  Stay strong, stay tough.   :-)
