On how to make a statement on appliances that do not LAST
Well for coffee makers there are several options

A melita manual coffee maker

http://shop.melitta.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=64+0616&Cat=

A french Press

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=french+press&h...

Or a famous stove top espresso machine

http://www.amazon.com/Bradshaw-International-Coffee-Per...

I really do not like perc coffee, so bought a melita. I remember them fondly from a long time ago... they make good drip coffee and any failure it will be purely my fault.

But in my humble opinion we all have to look for alternatives, to send a message that is loud and clear. This designed to fail shit is no longer acceptable... period. So yes, even in what you buy you can make a statement.

we used a really clean, new, fine mesh Sock[sic] There were not such animals as filters in Israel

A new hat for nutcase nadin: kibbutznik!

And now, know-it-all nadin teaches the grateful Jewish pioneers how to make coffee:

9. Oh yeah it was washed after every use.
the locals were amazed at how much better it was... method was... boil water, drop grounds in boiling water, pour, wait a minute and then drink.

No matter how much you tried, there was sludge and chewy... so one morning I brought the newly washed sock... which I bought for the purpose. put the grounds in it. hung it from the top of a bottle and poured the water on it... they were amazed at how much better the coffee was. Sock staid[sic] after i left.

Now a DUmbass who actually claims to modify a $15 appliance!

3. I noticed that the on/off switch is usually the weak point in Chinese drip coffee makers.
I modded my last $15 coffee maker with a high quality switch and it has lasted for 4 years so far.

I had a digital thermostat fail last week, now that pisses me off. Low voltage, solid state electronics should last at least 20 years.

Nutcase nadin lies about her coffeemaker:

10. KEURIG! KEURIG! KEURIG!

You can get a filter so you can use your own coffees. I use the prepackaged ones for drive to work coffees and guests.

Nutcase nadin tips off the coffeemaker companies, after-hours meetings scheduled for all percolator design engineers:

I just let both companies know why I will not buy an electrical one... I figure they need to know.

This goes to show that not even fictional spirit-guides know everything. I didn't know that nadin spent some time in Israel saving the world. You would think that as her unofficial CC advocate that I would know such things.

I'm almost led to wonder if maybe she's been asked to leave all these places from which she's saved the world because they could not handle her awesomeness.

Keurigs are about as simple to use as it gets, but the product life is only like 3 to 5 years.

I love Melitta coffee.  It is without a doubt the best you can buy at the supermarket (although a little bit more expensive).   I load up on it at the Commissary when I am there once a month because that is the cheapest you can find it.

Never tried their coffee maker.  I go through several a year so I no longer spend a lot of money on them.

I love my French Press coffee maker. Yeah, OK, it has the word "French" in it. So do "French Fries". I don't care, it is delicious and makes the perfect amount for me. And yes, I even grind the beans.

Drip coffee makers are a pain to clean, they lime up, they burn out, and the paper filters pull out the most flavorful oils from the coffee. And I don't want to spend $100+ on a machine that does what my $15 French Press does.

My wife and I love our Keurig for the convenience, but I can still make better coffee with my drip machine. I tried the little filter attachment that came with the Keurig using my own coffee but it didn't seem to flow right. The hot water jetted down through the center of the coffee and left the rest of it dry and unbrewed, so it came out weak. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Me, I like the cheapest stuff I can find. Right now it's Folgers Breakfast blend in a 2 lb plastic "can" for $7.99.

It's "brewed" in a $15.99 Black and Decker Mr Coffee ripoff. No paper filters, just a fine screen. I need all the caffeine I can get.

Yup, I've tried everything under the sun trying to get that "perfect" cup. I gave up. Except for Jaimcan Blue Mountain or pure Kona, it's all pretty much the same, unless you get that half roasted S&W crap. THAT'S bad.

Probably comes from pouring it up her ass so much. I'm sure Nadine is one with the coffee enemas...helps her stay awake so she can keep her eyes on her global command center, a/k/a her 486DX2/66 with 16mb of RAM and 340mb hard drive. Stickers from a Costa Rican co-op on the side of the monitor, misspelled sticky-notes on the front reminding her to troll CC to keep track of what we're saying about her.

She's gone crazy. Seriously: she's mentally ill. Her spelling is the first clue. It wasn't always this bad. Nadine reminds me of Deb Frisch (Google her).

I have very ordinary tastes, Nescafe Instant is what I drink.  I don't know what it is, but I seem to actually prefer common, unrefined things.  Frozen pizzas, store brand peanut butter, McDonalds.  I imagine I'd be an object of mockery for the DUmmies.  Next time I'm in New York I think I'll go eat at the Olive Garden.

How does she go through coffee makers that fast?  I had a coffee maker that went with me on every excercise and deployment in the army for six years and it never quit.  Lightning is what finally killed it.

Nads,

What the hell did you do with the coffeemaker you bought in March?

Our thread:  http://www.conservativecave.com/index.php?topic=56791.0

DUmp thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x682827#683446

I'd like to point out that the Bunn A10 that I mentioned in that thread (that I picked up for $0) is still going strong.

I like our Keurig --

They are expensive to operate when you compare pound for pound, and I am sure some liberal (if it hasn't happened already) will bash them for the 'waste' and that prepackaged coffee comes from anywhere, not just so-called 'fair trade' sources - but I love the variety and convenience.

I have used the same cuisinart drip pot for years with a mesh filter. Never had a problem.
Now I do buy my coffee from these guys http://www.bocajava.com/. They have great coffee and they give back as well. For every two bags you buy they send one to the troops overseas. I signed DH up for it when he was deployed and they sent him something like 30 pounds of coffee and a nice grinder. Another friend got the same treatment. You can also go on there and donate more as well.

Great company that I can't say enough about.

Speaking of coffee snobs!
Macaroni Grill is a great restaurant chain.
We don't have a convenient Olive Garden, but really enjoy Macaroni Grill.

I've eaten Italian food all over, including Rome and Venice, and Macaroni Grill
is as good as any of them...if you aren't a snob.
