I've carried a pocket knife all my life. I feel naked without one in my pocket. The only problem with that is, it was never 'sharp'. I was always scraping or cutting stuff that kept it dull. The wife bought me two nice little knives for fathers day. Good ones that were razor sharp....she shouldn't have done that... :rotf:...the first thing I did with one was cut half a pants leg off my pants.... with the leg still in 'em. :rotf: Oh what a bloody mess I made.

Whoops!

We had a rotating mandolin slicer at a place I worked at.  My idiot GM got another one of her useless ideas and bought a big serrated knife with an offset fence/guide thing for slicing vegetables for salads as an idea to "replace" the mandolin slicer.  I would either do them freehand with a chef's knife or with the rotating slicer, but she thought this giant serrated knife would be "more efficient".  I ended up dragging that thing through my finger the first day.

That woman was a moron.

I got a simple madolin on sale at Marshall's. It's just a board with the slicer. It's super for slicing zucchinis, onions, peppers and fingers. I cut the tip of my index finger off. It kept bleeding and bleeding. I did my own first aid on it and it eventually healed. For the longest time I had a difficult time typing, but finally it's healed. SR said he should take it away from me.  :-)

I'm on my 3rd mandolin. This one is great, it has a really nice piece that not only stabs into whatever I'm slicing, but has "wings" on it to prevent the inevitable finger slice too.  :yahoo:  The first two were too hazardous to my fingers. Found this one at Ross for about $10.

Amazing how well those suckers slice through your thumb or finger and you don't realize it until the blood gushes. Then about 15 minutes, every nerve ending in the area is screaming - "YOU BITCH!!"  :bawl:

Nice job, Gina!

If you're lucky, like I wasn't when I grabbed a falling 6" inch recently-sharpened Zwilling chef's knife, you wouldn't have cut through your nerve endings in your fingertip.

The first inch or so of the middle finger on my left hand is still functionally dead after about 18 months -- people who know about such things tell me it'll be that way as long as I'm breathing.

I guess that means I won't be able to tell when I'm doing this  :bigbird: to somebody.  :rotf:

My complaint is the Titan vegetable peelers advertised on TV.   Hubby found a 2 pack at Wallgreens and brought them home.

Wonderful a small peeler and a large one, these things things can dehide a skunk in 2 minutes.

Problem is there are no finger guards,  a professional Chief can use these peelers but for every day people, with distractions . kids or pets, just some one talking to them------- It is Amazing how bad a finger can bleed.

Never had a problem with the age old paring knife to peel, except that more of the flesh was wasted, Come to think about I seldom see a cooking show that uses perhaps any more then a mandolin and a knife. 

All these infomercials with all the high price gizmo's are seldom shown on the cooking Chanel, so why the heck do we spend a fortune to buy them????

I have a few gadgets in the pantry that I have used maybe once, anyone else bought a high end item that was seldom used again ????
