Only a Democrat could think you could zero out DOD, then go out and buy defense capability when and if you need it.

New modern aircraft type?  Bare minimum of ten years from concept to proof of prototype, likely five years more to squadron service.

New warship type?  More like 15 to launch the hull, absolute minimum of at least another two for fitting out and trials.

Army and Marine troop and leader training establishments, core unit structures, and commissioned/noncommissioned unit leadership manning and structures?  It would take a full lifetime to replace them from nothing. 

You cannot rent the kind of tradition and honor that make men face death rather than turn tail and run.

You'd be amazed how many Ronulans share similar sentiments. As they started their assault on the formerly great protestwarrior.com they not only espoused the we'll-buy-defense-when-we-need-it bullshit they also claimed we could farm everything out to private firms or simply settle any invasion with 2A solutions as if the invasion itself wouldn't suck.

I really wanted to admire Ludwig von Mises but the anarcho-capitalists made it too hard. They contorted him so far out of proportion I just groan and click to a new thread when he's mentioned because the mindset behind the citation is generally too deranged.

MSB, it is a tragic paradox that so many, many good men and women have died or been scarred for life to protect the right of some people to be so catastrophically stupid.

I'm thinking that if you run the above post through the DUmmie-to-English translator it might come out as: I don't know how much $7 Trillion is, but it sounds like a lot! I bet $7 Trillion would buy loads of weed and Cheetos. Why doesn't the government just give that money to me?

An alternate timeline stocked solely by DUmmies would be interesting indeed.
