Today's letter to the editor
« on: July 28, 2011, 05:37:31 PM »
Hi,

Sent the following to the local paper today.  Be interesting to see if they print it.

regards,

Dear Editor,

Two sets of standards

As I sat there at lunch today watching my grandson playing with the toy from his McDonalds Happy Meal a thought occurred to me.  There is a certain segment of the liberal population that wants to change the sugar and fat content of those foods and eliminate the toy he was enjoying all together.

As a liberal friend explained to me sometime back, “Our society is too fat.  A certain segment of the population has an addiction to fat and sugary foods and the government needs to pass laws to protect them from that addiction.”

Now it would seem to me that since World War II our “congressional leaders” seem to have a spending addiction, having spent some $15 trillion or more money than they have taken in, with no end in sight.  It also seems to me that it is those same liberals who are opposed to a balanced budget amendment to the constitution.  Wouldn’t a balanced budget amendment be the same thing, passing a law to protect them, and us the taxpayers from their spending addiction?

Sounds to me like two sets of standards, one for our “congressional leaders” and one they want to impose on others.  I suggest the congress of this country spend their time on solving some real problems.  Until they are willing to pass a balanced budget amendment to deal with their spending addiction, they should leave my grandson and his Happy Meal alone.

Best regards,

Excellent letter, sir.  Please tell us if it gets published.  My grandson loves to eat at McDonald's for the same reason as I, yummy greasy food.  If we want an apple and bottle of water we'd get it cheaper at home. ::)

more than breaking into someone's house makes you part of the family.

Hi,

Thanks for the nice words.  Got a call this morning, it is going in the paper.  I have had a few published and normally I get a call 3-4 days later, this is the quickest response I have seen.

It will appear in the Northwest Herald, a Chicago suburban newspaper, in a few days.

I told the lady who called how much I enjoyed watching my grandson play with the toy and she responded with, "That's why they call it a Happy Meal!"  I think she is spot on.

I do feel sorry for you though, sir, living in the Chicago burbs can't be cheap.  My sister lived in Villa Park for quite awhile, but she and her husband have relocated to Taxes behind for Texas. :-)

Hi,

I spend my summers in the Chicago Suburbs, and winter in Lakeland, FL.  Now if you want a reason to feel sorry for me......I am a 71 year old lifelong Cub fan with season tickets.  Now that is an addiction....

Hi Thundley,

Have not heard from you in awhile.  As far as growing out of your Cubbie addiction, you have to ask someone older than me I guess.

Dennis

I have NO problem with the government  going on this fat hunt, seems to me this may be a good idea.

This idea may be difficult for the public to follow, we need help from the government to show us the way.

Since the government is much smarter and wiser then the general public we need a guide to help us.     So, lets demand Barney Frank show us the way.

Put the man on an industrial scale and make him follow the Obama diet. Weigh in once a month and we the public get to see his gains or losses.     Mrs. Obama is there to insure all is kosher and she gets to hand him the next months diet.

Give the man 6 months to loose 30 pounds on this diet, if he can do it without the scales being tampered with, money has not crossed palms and no sudden influx of money to his campaign chest---- then all is going as normal in politics.

OOOPS am I in the wrong forum?????????

Hi,

No, you are on the right track.  They can also show us the way by dropping congressional health care plans and going on Obamacare, dropping congressional pensions and going on social security.  They are "congressional leaders" ya know!  One of the characteristics of leadership is followers want to follow.  Indeed let them lead the fat parade.....Al Gore could be their poster child.  Maybe he can talk McDonalds into selling an "Unhappy Meal".

Maybe they could put the fat congresspeople on a plan where they get looked at by the death panels, why should taxpayers have to pay for health care for bloated folks in the government?

Maybe they can have donuts ananomous meetings at the locak Dunkin Donut shop while they are at it.

Endless possibilities when you think about it.
