I hate when people try to piss others off with their obviously inappropriate tshirt sayings.  I saw a guy at the airport with the f word written HUGE on his shirt.  I wish a security guard would have made him change.  I hate censorship but I also hate people who are attention whores like this.  I wouldn't have cared about the shirt she had on but that doesn't mean that a business can't say something about it.

My sister wore a "**** OFF" t-shirt to the salon on my wedding day.  I told her to take it off and wear something else.  She told me, and I quote, "**** you"  I told my mom the shirt was unacceptable and an embarrassment.  My mom said something to the effect of, "oh it's fine."  What the hell?  I'd smack my child upside the head if she wore something like that out in public.  We were at the salon for two hours.  I really wish the salon employees would have told her to change her shirt.  I just do not understand why people think it's okay to dress like that.

I realize that what I am about to say is going to piss most of you off, but it has to be said. Why do you care what your sister wears? If the salon didn't kick her out, obviously they didn't care either. This is supposed to be a free country and the word offensive is so objective that there is no way to regulate it. I have been set straight that private business can do it. Doesn't sound to me like the salon cared, so why do you?

There is absolutely no reason to be embarrassed by what someone else does. If you didn't do it, get over yourself. You told her you didn't like it and even told your mommy on her (very mature BTW). If she is an adult in America then she can make her own decisions. Why do people always want to control the actions of others? If you don't like something either don't participate or just ignore it. It ain't rocket science.

So, I'm assuming you have no problem with someone rolling next to a children's park on 22"s blaring "Pop that P***y" by 2 Live Crew? Seems like you're making the very case.

I certainly wouldn't do it, but I wouldn't try to outlaw it or tell my mom either. I just don't get offended by what others do. If you tread on me, then I am going to have a problem. But someone wearing a shirt or playing music doesn't do that. We have got to stop this type of thinking.

There was a story Beck told about a chinese man walking past a bar (not even in the bar) and heard the song "Kung Fu Fighting". He said he was offended and sued. He won. I am going to spell the name of the place wrong but phenetically it sounds like White Island and I believe it is part of the UK. Google it if you want. This is what we are headed towards when everyone thinks they should tell everyone else how to "properly" behave. Relax and live people.

Yeah bad choice of words on my part...

I respect dolly a lot.  She grew up in an area with real poverty <not "I have a cellphone and a ps3, but im poor" poverty> and used her fame and $$$ to open that park to create opportunities...

"Hiilfolk" is not an insult.

With freedom comes responsibility.  Some folks can't seem to handle either one very well.

There is a thing called common decency and it used to be the norm rather than the exception in our society.  What you seem to be doing is making excuses for crass and boorish behavior.  Neither should be tolerated in a polite and respectful society.

I can see your side of the debate. But look at the other side. I don't like screaming kids at restaurants, movies, the mall. I don't like it when someone brings a kid to a ball game and gets mad if someone cusses because of a bad play or bad call. If people are so sensitive about their children hearing a song or seeing a t-shirt, then they should alter their lives. Don't make everyone else change because you wanted to have a kid. That is your deal, not mine.

With that said, I do respect others. I am willing to bet that if someone walks up to a car blaring whatever song was referenced above, and asked them to not do that, they will discover that the people in the car didn't even know there was a "childrens" park there. Why do we need law officers to do what we can do on our own? Most people are not the asses others think they are. They are just too involved in themselves to think of someone else. That includes mothers. Because surely they would tell their kids to shut up if they knew it was ruining evereyone elses dinner.

I have tried that and was told to go F myself.  People are becoming rude, crass, boorish and otherwise just plain self centered.  Far too many of them have seem to have limited self-respect and therefore don't seem to have any respect for others either.

Many people are indeed the asses that others think they are and the percentage has grown drastically in my lifetime.

What is rarely mentioned about Dolly, is her Imagination Library, which is a non-profit early childhood literacy program she started in Sevier County, spread throughout the US and is now in Canada and the UK. New parents can join when their babies are born, or parents with children up to age 5, and the child is sent a new age appropriate book every month. It is a wonderful program, my daughter was given the information to participate, when she was in the hospital having my grandson. My oldest will be dropping out of the program in Dec when he turns 5, but my granddaughter has another 3 years in it. The books are great. http://www.imaginationlibrary.com/usa/howworks.php

Dolly may be "hillfolk", but she's quite proud of being "hillfolk" and she's one smart lady.

I didn't know about her Imagination Library..   Thanks for letting me know that....   Its just another example of her 'just being a good person'....

People are becoming too jaded and tolerant of outrageous behavior.  Lots of people in his neighborhood knew that Jeffrey Dahmer was a weirdo, but nobody did anything about it until it was too late.  Same with the sickos that kidnapped Jaycee Dugard.  Kitty Genovese.

Weirdos have to be called out for their weird behavior.

Thats cool. You are allowed to be pissed, but because you're pissed does that give you the right to change another person's behavior?

Let's look at this with a cool head.

1.Your sister had a shirt on that you didn't approve of.
2.You told her to change it. Not because it affected your life in any way, just because....
3.She stood her ground and said no. (which is an admirable trait)
4.You told your mommy
5.Your mom told her to change it
6.She still stood here ground and didn't change it (again, sticking by what you believe in is a good trait.)
7.You cave in to your beliefs and go to the salon anyway (cowardice)
8.No one at the salon cares, yet you are embarrassed by something you didn't do (low self-esteem)
9.Instead of sticking up for your original beliefs, you caved and then came to a computer to complain (very brave of you)
The bottom line is, if you believe in something, then stick with it. Dont wait for a law to be passed or someone else to do it for you. For goodness sake, stand up for yourself.

How? If she would have stood her ground with her sister then her sister would have either changed the shirt or Evil Conservative wouldn't have went to the salon. Her sister called her bluff. She called her mom's bluff. Why? Probably because she already knows that EC and her mom are pushovers. Her sister (right or wrong) sounds like the strong mind in the family.

It's the same with every situation. People don't pay attention or don't care until it's too late. Once it's too late, you then have to be stronger than you would have needed to be earlier. All because no one gives a sh*t until they are directly involved.

My mom and sister are both idiots most of the time.  So I just tend to ignore the dumb stunts my sister pulls.

I still went to the salon that day because it was my wedding day.  I did not walk down with my sister.  She came in all by herself.  She no longer was apart of my "party" that entire time we were at the salon.

I'm thinking unbiased is very young. There is a need for decency in society. Being gay isn't indecent. Having a "**** You" T-Shirt, blaring 2 Live Crew through a neighborhood, or having "Marriage is gay" is indecent.

I've lived in Tennessee for thirty years and never heard the term 'hillfolk'.  I wouldn't take it as an insult.

I've never been to Dollywood either, so you can take that for what it's worth.

I agree that the shirt is tasteless, but come on. We live in America. We have freedom of speech. That's like saying you can't wear a Cardinals jersey in Cincinnati or a Yankee jersey in Boston, or a Jesus Didn't Tap shirt anywhere. It's only offensive if you let it be.

The Sykes reference is hilarious though. It is hypocritical.

Huh...maybe you didn't hear, but Dollywood, as most amusement parks, are PRIVATE facilities.

Also, you might want to take a look at the First Amendment again.  Something about, "Congress shall make no law..." and all that.  I can't call my boss a ****tard and not expect to feel the wrath, nor can I take refuge and claim my 1A rights were violated when I get fired for it.

If i was EC , I would have gone ballistic, if any of my wedding party showed up like that!! :censored: :censored:
#1 That was disrespectful to EC.
#2 Tacky , and obnoxious to say the very least.
#3 EC was between a rock and a hard place. Me, I would have uninvited her to the wedding, thrown her out of the wedding party. Sounds like sister has some jealousy(sibling rivalry) issues and Mum didn't have the bandwidth to stick up for EC(which she should have). I don't care how old she is, Ec's sister's behaviour was totally unacceptable.
