What has happened to the price of Ruffles?

A nine ounce bag of Ruffles is $4.29!

That's two potatoes, probably. Two potatoes cost no more than fifty cents at most. Add another fifty cents for oil, processing, marketing. The cost to the manufacturer can't be more than a buck.

So there's a profit of more than $3.00 on a bag!!

A 300 percent profit.

Something's very wrong with this.

Okay, I'm sure nearly everybody here knows the answer to this, but don't waste time explaining it to the grasswire primitive, as she's not the brightest bulb in the room, and she won't understand.

2. not the point

I don't buy potato chips. I just happened to notice that enormous price for a product that is cheap to produce. Price gouging.

8. Yeah, they've gotten ridiculous again.

I wait for B1G1 and use coupons, or I get it at Aldi's. Or, I find other things to eat for breakfast.

6. it's BS

never buy chips at full price, they will be on sale 2 for 1 or half off next Wednesday OR the price will be at least a buck lower then.

I never buy name brand chips (rarely buy any but store brand tortilla chips, anyway) but I was shocked the first time I saw an insane price on potato chips too, so I started watching...something is always much lower on that rack.

7. It's not just Ruffles...

Ice cream is running around $6 for a quart and a half carton. The "gourmet" brands, like Ben and Jerry's and Hagen Daaz are five bucks a pint. They can shove it. Time to break out the ice cream maker. I can make a half gallon of a good sorbet for a fraction of what they're charging, and without all they artificial shit the put in ice creams.

Gross profit is not the same thing as operating margin.  I wouldn't expect someone who cannot even manage to get strawberries organized on top of a pie to understand the difference.

How do you think those fragile potato chips manage to reach your Cheetos stained fingers without breaking?

The air is in there so that when you buy a bag of potato chips with my money, your precious little snowflake fingers don't have to reach into a bag full of broken potato chips, you ignorant stooge.

Let me be the first to say it, exorbitant union wages.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

I was at the local grocery store and I saw Lay's, the brand of chips I choose to gorge myself on, for 4.29.  A day or so earlier, I saw them for 2.50 at Super Evil Non-Union Corporation (oops, I mean Wal-Mart).

Someone help me.  Didn't they have a thread the other day wanting to raise taxes on unhealthy foods or drinks?  Shouldn't they celebrate?

When a DUmmy thinks that if it only costs a dollar in raw material for a product to be made that anything over that dollar is pure profit, shows just how much they don't know about anything.

I'm guessing if they did use 2 potatoes for an entire bag of chips, those 2 potatoes didn't cost a dollar. They probably buy in bulk and each potato is probably pennies if one were to figure that out. So let's say for the sake of argument that each bag of chips uses 10 cents worth of potatoes. To a DUmmy that means anything over 10 cents is profit!!!!!!11111 They forget that the potatoes are peeled, cut, cooked, seasoned and so forth, which costs money just for the energy and materials to do so. Then you have to figure in, the wages for the people who run the machines, pack the chips in boxes, the people who load them on the trucks, the drivers of the truck, and so on. In order to do any of that, each person gets paid money, on top of that safety equipment is supplied, social security taxes are paid, and whatever benefit package each person gets also takes money. Then on top of that they have to pay taxes on whatever profit they manage to make.

Next the chips are shipped to the grocery stores, at the store someone unloads the truck, someone puts the bags on the shelf, someone has to check you out when you get to the counter. All these people require everything that the previous people needed. On top of that there are costs for things like the AC that keeps the store cool so the groceries don't spoil, and the customers can shop in comfort, plus the lighting and so forth. So in reality by the time the DUmmy buys chips to go with his or her weed, Frito Lay and the grocery store make a cent or 2 in actual profit. Every other cent went into paying living wages, overhead expenses and taxes. By the time you add in the extra costs for fuel prices, and the growing costs of food supplies, it's no wonder that a bag of chips costs damn near $5. And you DUmmies want to tax Frito Lay and your grocery store at higher rates, imagine how much your munchies for your weed will cost then. But, at least you can smirk and say we soaked them evil rich people.  :banghead:

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

That where the problem is.  The high cost isn't because of taxes going to the government. No, they don't like this because the high cost means profits for the evil big corporations.

I buy Ruffles or Wavy Lays for me, M wants Fritos, and T prefers Doritos, but will eat either of the others.

Somebody has them on sale every week for about $2. One or more of them is one sale every week, then I get those and wait until the next week and get one of the others.

It's not rocket science, DUmmies...it's called good shopping skills.  ::)

The Dummies are in for a shock this fall ,winter, and spring.

The midwest and southern droughts, floods and disasters will cause the price of corn and potatoes to go through the roof.  I do not know how the wheat production is going--scared to inquire.

I have taken to buying bags of frozen corn when on sale, poking a few holes in the bags and vacuum packing them for the freezer.      Also bags of dried corn to put up, same as dried beans and peas.

It has been a horrid year for crops, some farmers are selling off half grown cattle as they cannot feed them to full growth.   Same reason I buy at least one large box of dry milk a month.    Yuck but there are ways to make that stuff taste good.

Chickens eat corn, expect the cost of chicken to go sky high as the huge amount of corn they are fed causes the industry to produce less.

In my area the cost of potatoes, fresh is outrageous, Buying five pounds of frozen potatoes  when on sale  cheaper then fresh, vacuum sealing and freezing them also.

Hubby stopped at Demoulas to pick up a couple pounds of tomatoes and came home with vine ripened still on vine tomatoes ----All the store had that day---cost $5.00----Product of Canada.    Cost was by pound and the thick vines added into the weight.

We can live without Lettuce, celery and cocks,---little nutrition, but the cost will to those that dine out will go sky high.

As the Primitives worry about their snack food prices, they miss the point, real food is going to cost them so much, they may have to forgo junk food that will cause loss of millions of  jobs in one way or the other.

Heck, a loaf of non white bread is at $3.00 a loaf now.    Just wait until the cost of eggs goes to $3.00 a dozen +.

Then the riots in the streets when the price of beer goes up to $15.00 a six pack for BUD.
