What are you finding at the farmers market this weekend?
 
My whole holiday was *made* at the market today. A brass band was the entertainment, and it nearly made me cry with nostalgia.

I could barely tear myself away to shop, but did. Strawberries, English peas, a glorious bunch of scarlet sweet peas, and a bunch of basil. That's all I got for today, but can't wait for more.

What's in your market?

1. Strawberries, snow peas, lettuces, broccoli & cole crops from the cooler, coast areas of the county.

As well as the latest avocado crop from the hillsides.

Some tree fruits are starting to come in from up county, inland growers.

Someone finally is growing iceberg lettuce locally, yeah.

Other than that, not much is in season yet, so jams, pastries, breads, eggs.

3. It's still been too cool here to get much from this side of the mountains

I'm able to get local greens and strawberries are just starting. I'm getting some greenhouse grown local tomatoes. We're finally getting the Yakima Rainer and Red cherries. The Cherry people were finally out starting Friday. (In the burbs of Seattle people sell Yakima cherries in makeshift stands on the side of the road in random locations)

4. the WA cherry crop is expected to be late and small this year

..and in both OR and WA farmers lost many many trees over the winter to freeze. Not good for them or for us.

Oh, and my family member who pastors a church in Wenatchee says that farmers are saying that many cherries will go to market with cracks due to excess early rain.

So enjoy while we can. I love cherries.

Hmmmm.

Perhaps the grasswire primitive's relative who pastors a church should pastor the grasswire primitive on the immorality of giving away stuff to the rich while charging the poor full price for things.

I've been eating what I can find like crazy. The Rainers are a little spotty but still juicy and flavorful.

lets see in the past couple of days we collected baskets of raspberries (got about 3 acres of them growing wild), a shite load of onions, red and white, lots of turnips, god knows how many tomatoes, cukes and beans as well.  Hell my kids ate so many raspberries that when my son farted in my truck i swear it smelled like raspberry jam.

Most primitives are stupid because they're voluntarily stupid; they close their minds.

But now I'm starting to think the grasswire primitive is naturally not bright.
