A terrible precedent...
Edited on Sat Jun-18-11 10:24 AM by kentuck
The Democrats in the Congress are treading on treacherous ground. You cannot "compromise" with terrorists. When they agreed to extend the Bush tax cuts for an extension of unemployment benefits, it was a terrible decision and lack of judgement. Now they are paying the price politically, in that it is used against them for driving up the deficit. What drove up the deficit the most? The Bush taxcuts!
Now that the terrorists have seen that they can extort and bribe their way into getting what they want, they will never change. Not only will they ask for the end of Medicare, they will seek the demise of Social Security and other benefits that people have fought to attain. Democrats will give a little here and a little there and soon there will be nothing left.
But, what is the alternative? Are we going to let the unemployed not get their benefits? Are we going to let them default on the debt? Are we going to let them shut down the government? What choice do we have? How do we get them to release the hostages?
It is a terrible precedent.

3. the backsliding will not stop
until us "radicals" hit the streets with intensity. Nothing else will matter, and maybe not even the inevitable bloodbath.
But, it's hot outside and finals are coming up.

4. The Repubs would not let the Democrats get away with what they themselves are doing...

If the Democrats tried the same maneuvers and made the same threats about shutting down the government, etc, the Repubs would be in front of the cameras, lambasting the Democrats for blocking what needs to be done and what a shameful display of partisanship on the Democrats part, blah, blah, blah. Unfortunately, the Democrats do not have access to any cameras.

9. Since it was borrowed and charged to the American people...
they should be asked to pay it back. They never kept their end of the bargain. They only kept the taxcuts.
They act like the treasury send the rich people a check.
For the life of me, I will never figure out how not taking money from someone is stealing.
I tell you what DUmmies, how about if the govt started living within its means. Show us that they can be responsible with our money. Then if they want more for other things we will negotiate it.
If we were to raise taxes, all that would happen is, the govt would spend even more money then say they need to raise taxes again, rinse and repeat until we have to tax everyone at 100%.
