Woman Threatens Dairy Queen Employees with a Grenade

MESA, Ariz. - Police say a homeless woman entered a Dairy Queen restaurant and threatened employees with a grenade.

When 30-year-old Renee Deshaies attempted to leave the scene near Olive and Main Street, she still had the grenade in her hand.

The victims believed the grenade was real and feared for their safety.

Police say the grenade was not real and was only used for training purposes.

When Deshaies was interviewed, she believed it was real.

She was arrested less than a mile away from the scene near Hobson and 1st Street.

Deshaies faces disorderly conduct and misconduct with a simulated explosive charges.

Maybe they wouldn't give her free food or she didn't like their burgers.  :-)

At least she's solved her homeless problem for a while. Hope she gets some mental health care while she's spending some time with the state.

Even if it was painted baby blue, it's not safe to take a chance on it being a training item, though the odds are at least 10-1 it would be.  There are always nuts who take the time and effort to rebuild the fuze and arm the trainers; it's possible, though technical and highly illegal.

The training grenades that we used in Basic has a big hole in the bottom and couldn't easily be filled with an explosive component.
