I question the day-by-day, even hour-by-hour hand-wringing of "Who will be the GOP candidate to go against Obama?" mentality that has taken hold over many people. More specifically, REPUBLICANS should not worry about this process. If you really look at the bottom line, the ONLY people who are vetting our nominee are the socialist Obama-centric media...and you know what THEY would like to see.
The key here is to NOT let the socialist media dictate what "America" is thinking about who should run. Indeed, they will be doing their DAMNEDEST to promote our lamest mainstream RINO's as "the ONLY person who has a CHANCE against Obama". But their only...their ONLY!... mission is to DISPIRIT republicans and, in extension, conservatives, from running the person we feel should run.
All one has to do is to review the entire 2008 presidential process. The socialist press pulled off the greatest double whammy in world political history. One, they propelled the Obama candidacy over that of the presumed front-runner Hillary Clinton. That was a given.
But one should look at how the media dictated the GOP nomination. In MY opinion, this was FAR MORE ONEROUS. Note they did everything they could to demonize the more conservative GOP members while promoting John McCain as the Most Popular Man since Jesus Christ. This included vetting EVERY other candidate in the GOP to losing to Clinton, then to Obama as he took over the Democratic race, but pretty much was promoting that "the ONLY chance the GOP had was to elect a 'sensible' moderate like McCain."
Once McCain won the nomination, though, he experienced the largest media turnaround in history. From being proclaimed as great, McCain became the most onerous man since Nixon in the mindset of the socialist media. Previous accolades during the primary process were not only forgotten, but ignored completely as they painted McCain as the epitome of the continuation of the Bush policies. This was all calculated to get Obama elected.
Please note, this was all before Palin entered the mix. The bottom line is that the socialist media will interject as much of their influence as possible, and part of it is to project the "GOP presidential race" before it even gets out of the blocks. So frankly we should not worry about the GOP candidate until at least after the end of summer, perhaps even Thanksgiving. Remember, though everyone knew that Reagan was going to run, he didn't officially jump in until about Christmas 1979. Now, we shouldn't IGNORE the GOP positioning, but we should put NO stock into it until we are ready to roll.
