Atheists: you want people to like you better?  Why not try reigning in fundie atheist idiots like PZ Myers, Michael Newdow and that retarded "Freedom From Religion" group in Wisconsin?

It goes both ways, I could say the same thing with a few different names inserted.

Like I said before, every side on an issue has idiots/nuts, this is no different.

33. I don't think that Americans generally dislike atheists for being atheists per se,

but I think that many Americans tend to associate all or most atheists with the New Atheists or radical atheists, which many consider to be bigoted hate groups. People do not dislike Lance Armstrong or Billy Joel, both atheists. But people like Hitchens, who has exhorted hatred, or Bill Mahre, who ridicules and belittles religion and religious people - these types have caused many to lump all atheists together as a group.

Wow, one guy actually "gets it!!"  Of course, he is immediately shouted down and ridiculed...you can't have truth show up on a Dim board, too many members will  :overreaction:

Seems to me "Americans hate atheists" is a VERY broad generalization; therefore, automatically wrong. I don't hate atheists, just can't stand people who KNOW they are right all the time and feel the need to explain to me how I am WRONG all the time. As others have said, this applies not only to atheists who know I am wrong for believing in God, but to people of religions (that I don't belong to) telling me my beliefs are also wrong.

Sure would be nice if people would just learn to respect others' right to be wrong, instead of trying to "fix" everyone else.

Atheists are very very loyal to their religion. They can be more annoying than the 7th day adventists when it comes to pushing their beliefs onto those who aren't interested.
