You have to do this.

If the government shuts down I will not be paid until a budget is passed. I will have to live off of my savings until I am paid.

This can actually hurt me quite a bit because I am looking to buy a new home (farm, really) and the down payment/closing costs will suck-up almost half of my life savings (but my monthly expenses will drop $800-plus/month).

If I chew-up all my savings trying to ride-out the shutdown I will lose my farm. I don't want to. The thought breaks my heart.

But you HAVE to do this. You have to win this fight. You cannot shy away because if you do any efforts at balancing the budget will be discredited.

The libs will be given free-rein to spend us into ruin and subjugate the next 5 generations as wards of a bankrupt, self-empowering, incompetent state.

Every tyrant that fears to move because they worry about how the US might react will be left unopposed and they will target us first.

While my OP remains true, we have to win this fight, it figures the people fighting at the behest of the Vacationer-in-Chief's orders won't be paid.

Nothing quite like taking fire from all sides wondering if your family back home will have grocery money.

Why would the military lose pay if/when a government shutdown happens?  That's the LAST thing the government should cut with a shutdown.  Our troops NEED and SHOULD be paid, no matter what.

If anything, stop paying out on welfare, food stamps, and unemployment until a budget is passed.

Cherry Blossom parade might be nixed if there's a shutdown

The National Cherry Blossom Parade may not take place if there is a government shutdown, the Obama administration cautioned Wednesday.

Among the government operations and services that could be closed would be national parks, which includes the site of Saturday's parade in Washington, D.C.

A senior administration official singled out the parade during a conference call Wednesday morning hosted by the Office of Management and Budget.

Federal agencies have sought to identify which employees and services would be furloughed if lawmakers can't reach an agreement to fund the government before Friday's deadline.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival is an annual two-week springtime festival coordinated with the peak blossom season for D.C.'s many cherry blossom trees. It is a large draw for tourists.

I can't remember exactly where I heard it, but there was a comment on a news segment yesterday that Lord Zero has the authority and the power to structure any government shutdown any way he likes. He can make it painful, or make it less so by prescribing the less-critical elements of the government to shut down.

Clearly, transportation needs to his fund-raising lying have a clear priority.

Stop paying out welfare/food stamps on the professional parasites/illegal aliens first. That would save a bunch of $$$. If you ain't had a job in the last 5 years and are on the dole, then it's high time you live like the rest of us have to. If the professional parasites don't like it... too bad. I'm on unemployment, but I'm not going to riot in the streets if I got cut off for a few weeks or however long it takes. 

And about McDonald's - I saw that hiring day thing.  I applied a few days ago for an evening shift position.  We are hoping if I were to get a job at McDonald's, I can work evenings so we won't have to pay for daycare.

I'm a full-time military personnel federal technician. I've been instructed to not report to work in the event of a shutdown (just as well, I live 70 miles from my duty station and without pay I'll be saving $140 on gas by not going).

However, it needs to be re-emphasize: while the Commander in Shithead is vacationing the troops he orders into harm's way will not be able to feed their families if the democrats play their games longer than a week.

Even military-hating Clinton agreed to pay the military when the government was shut down on his watch.   Obama is a POS (note that I don't use that term lightly when referring to a president).

Actually Colorado Guard.

Much of what the state NGs do is federally-supported and, as you may imagine, while soldiers only drill mostly on the weekends the units are on schedules that see them training on different times. The whole logistical effort (facilities, personnel actions, pay, recruiting etc) are full-time efforts so about 7 to 10 percent of the force is full-time.

Having originally been AD it was an eye-opener for me as well.

On true furlough days you aren't allowed to use vacation time; the thought being no-pay-means-no-pay.

They consider this a "funding gap" as if to say the money really is there to be spent, they just haven't apportioned it.

At the expense of ruining my conservative credentials: if they put the check in my hand I'm not giving it back. I suppose I should be a medic out of altruistic motives but when they offer $20k to re-enlist, I'm taking that too.
