Not sure if you all find this racist or not?  I don't think I've ever heard the word "Buckwheat" used as a racist term.  To me, Buckwheat was the little boy on Little Rascals.

To call someone, "Buckwheat" was a common expression when I was young. Sometime in the 70s, people bastardized the meaning and threw racial connotations into the meaning.

Haven't seen the character in years, but from what I recall of him, I've seen it used as derogatory towards black individuals based on appearance/conduct whether its the hair or clothing, or speech. I've never seen it used towards a white person.

Holy Cow, it's getting ridiculous out there as to what constitutes a racial slur. :whatever:
For me, Buckwheat means buckwheat pancakes.  Now, I am sure some up to date liberal can enlighten me as to why the word pancake is a racial slur.  Because, if there's one thing I'm certain of, some looney tunes out there will have that idea. :argh:

I have used the name buckwheat for years but that s because of a charater on the old tv show 'Wiseguy" named Roger used it all the time. He worked for Susan and Mel Proffitt and he was an undercover CIA operator that was working for both the CIA and Mel Proffitt.

When the star of the show was injured he even filled in Vinnie for the DOJ. You'll hear him call Vinnie Buckwheat at 6:07 in this clip.

Get out and poke around rural Texas. One of the most common phrases that used to be said when I was coming up was, "No shit, Buckwheat". Another was, "Listen here, Buckwheat...". I've used it and seen it used towards white folks. I suppose it's a nice way of saying, "Dumbass", I can't say for sure. Of course, that was some 36 years ago. Possibly it was used as a disparaging term because buckwheat pancakes are pretty much unrefined. :clueless:

Of course, a white person can't even refer to a "black hole" in a scientific or fiscal manner without some black idiot moron getting all up in arms.

I think the problem comes from the fact that he didn't use the term until he replied to a black person. If he had been calling others that term, then it might be different.  IIRC, some people even complained about Eddie Murphy playing Buckwheat on Saturday Night Live.

A know a cat named Buckwheat.

Way back when, when Jesse Jackson tried to run for president, I was a mush-headed college student or something.  My parents (conservative), acquired a black cat at the time, and named him Jesse.  I was sooooo embarrased, I thought it was so racist.  Why?  I have no idea.

During WW II, the squadron commander of an RAF bomber unit had a black dog named the N word but over there and during that time the word didn't mean what it does here. Some people need to learn that if you let someone offend you in that way then maybe you should just chug on over to namby pamby land were maybe they can find some selfconfidence for you.
