You mean a regular electric and not an induction type?? If yes, then, yes, it should.  It's quality stainless steel, so it's non-magnetic.

It's this one:

Looks like Walmart no longer carries it. :(

Yeah, a regular electric, not an induction.  Cool beans, I will take a look.  Probably would work faster and stay warmer than a french press.

I'm late to this party, but shouldn't you be eating GOOD carbohydrates?  Our bodies need to be fueled by carbohydrates.  I've always found this site helpful.

http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/what-should-you-eat/carbohydrates-full-story/index.html

Diets like the one you and your wife are on never work for me.  Healthy eating and exercise is the only thing that works.  If you don't get enough carbs, your body will start to "shut down".  I'm not a nutritionalist, but always weary of the "cut out the carbs" type of diets, even if it's just temporarily.

The "no carb" thing is pretty much a misnomer - even veggies have a certain amount of carbs, and fruits certainly do in the form of fructose (natural, not synthesized). By reducing carbs in the diet, the body has no choice but to burn fat. And as noted above, the problem with that after awhile is the body tends to think it's being starved and begins to shut down metabolism, which isn't a good thing. So what this doc does is embark on a program that "fools" the body into thinking that all is well, it's perfectly fine to continue burning fat because we're eating okay. Apparently, the 17-day cycle was chosen deliberately because that's when most people's metabolism begins to slow down on a reduced-carb diet. Metabolism that's slowed results in a dieter "plateauing" and that leads to frustration and disappointment in the quest to lose weight, and thus, most diets that restrict one thing or another fail for a lot of people.

In a perfect world, you're right. If we'd all eat healthily and exercise the way God intended us to, we wouldn't have problems. But I ain't perfect. And since I've had to give up other vices (smoking and drinking) and resort to chasing only one woman, I ain't too proud to eat more than I should. So I tend to gain weight when I'm in lazy mode.

Weight control has been an issue my entire life, so I have to do things to keep from blowing up like a balloon.

This diet, more than anything, forces me to eat the following:

Green leafy vegetables
Other types of raw veggies
Fruit
Lean meats/poultry
Non fat dairy
Spare amounts of whole grains (in the later cycles)

That looks like healthy eating to me!   :cheersmate:

Eupher, I wish you and Mrs. E the best of luck on this diet. :cheersmate:
As for me, over the years I have discovered that I have to count calories and do a moderate amount of exercise if I want to keep from becoming HUGE.  I gave up the battle of being slender at least 20 years ago. :whistling:
As for what I eat, I haven't found that it matters, only the calories themselves.  Of course, it's much easier for me to STOP eating when what I'm eating isn't addictive (to me), so called trigger foods.
I don't have a trigger foods list, I have a frikkin dictionary.  I love to eat. :bawl:

"Good" carbs is a relative term. Whether sugar or a starch which always converts to sugar, in excess, is never a good thing. Even whole milk, is full of sugar -lactose.

Protein helps build and retain muscle. Reducing carbs, forces the body to feed on it's abundance of fat cells, thus reducing the amount of fat deposits in the body.

When I was your age ( I know...that's a wicked awful phrase, but in this instance, true), all I had to do was to eat reasonably healthy, and stay active. I was 26 when I had my first child, gained 80LBs with her, and was back in my "real" clothes for my 6wk check-up. I was taking in a lot of calories, as I was breast-feeding, but after the first 10 days, the weight just dropped off. When my daughter was a week old, I was at the grocery, and the checkout clerk asked me when my baby was due...I was still so big. I cried in the car, all the way home.  :(

I was in my early 50's before I got to the point where I couldn't just lose a couple of pounds quickly. Up until then, depending on my stress level, I was always in a 4 or a 6. About 4 years ago, combining depression eating and a sugar addiction, my body clung to everything I ate.  :bawl:

Pounds do drop off of men much quicker than they do women. We are sooooo blessed with an abundance of fat cells, that men are not, because our bodies are made for having babies and sustaining them for 9 months.

Also, the more weight a person has to lose, the quicker it will drop off - at first. As the weight amount becomes less, the body will work harder to keep it, and the amount lost will usually drop down to only a pound or two per week.

In my case this past fall, because I was having to totally change what I was eating, my metabolism apparently went into panic mode, and I only lost about 10lbs, the first two months. It was depressing, but the doctor said that was the best way to lose it. Then as my metabolism readjusted to the way it used to be, and my diet was closer to what it used to be....the pounds dropped off too fast, which is why I'm having the hair loss. Now, I'm trying to stabilize my metabolism, but still lose a bit more.

Everybody's metabolism is different though, regardless of any diet. What works for one, may not work for another. RB and I are on the same diet, yet she also has had to really watch her fat and calorie intake, as just reducing carbs was not enough for her. She has been much more careful, the entire time, in following the diet than I have been, yet I've lost about 5 more pounds and a whole lot more inches. She's not losing her hair either.  :(
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Thank you. When I was active duty, I had to do much more physical work to keep the weight off, but I had both the motivation and time. And my body cooperated. After 13 marathons, some 250 half-marathons, and God-knows-how-many-other-training miles, my knees just laugh at me if I want to run. So I began swimming, and that worked wonderfully. There's just one problem with that. You have to have a pool. Now I have an elliptical exerciser, which works fine - in fact I burned up the first one and had to buy a commercial-grade machine because I tend to wear the damned things out!

Time is also a factor. I'm up at 4:30 a.m. to do all the shit I'm supposed to do during the day, and when I get home at 5:15 p.m., there are the animals to deal with, dinner to cook, and practicing at least an hour. That takes me to 9 p.m., when I turn into a zombie and totter off to bed. I get up and do it all over again.

Exercising - I have to MAKE time for it. It doesn't happen easily.

I absolutely dreaded those monthly weigh ins, since I was always almost on the fat person program.  The Army standards are tough.  Hated PT as well.  Now my body craves movement.  I guess I have trained it these past years.  I love to walk and listen to my music, but it gets so damn hot here for many months and the walkers at the Mall get on my last nerve sometimes.  There are shitty drivers, and they are probably the same ones blocking my progress at the Mall as well. :banghead:
So, hubby went out and bought me a stationary bike, which I absolutely LOVE to use and it is even more convenient than walking, since I can sit on it in my p.j.'s.  I tried it while listening to music and also with a movie on, but the best way for me was to read a book while cycling.  I love to read anyway, and it's always great to combine two activities in one.  Plus, the bike is much easier on my feet, knees and all the bones in between.
You said you need to make dinner in the evening.  Any way to cut down on the prep time?  Which reminds me, I gotta go for a bit and make my homemade guacamole.  It needs to set for a few hours in the fridge.  But, for dinner I'm "cooking" Safeway Select beef enchilada entres.

When you're eating healthy, you can't really prep much. Veggies and salads have to be done up just before eating. I'll do up chicken breasts or fish, and it's the same thing. It takes awhile. I'm allergic to exercise.

Trying to talk M into an elliptical. He likes the treadmill, I hate it. We had this fancy-schmancy stationary bike that had belonged to his dad, but M thought it was boring and it made my tush hurt, so he sold it.

He has a realllllllly bad knee (3 surgeries, absolutely no cartilage left and needs a replacement but won't even consider it) and I think the elliptical would be better for him.

Is Mrs. E doing as well? M can lose weight so much easier than I can. I swear, all he has to do is think about it, and can lose 3-5 pounds.

I call that "taking a dump".     :-)

I've posted about this before, but what I've done for the past 4+ years is just watch total caloric intake.

If you want to weigh, say (female) 120 lbs add a "0" to the 120. Thats your total intake for the day.
I was nearly 260 lbs at one time. Using this method I maintain about 225, give or take a dump or two.

I did cut down on carbs, but I LOVE bread, so I substitute fake eggs (carton) and only have 2 pieces of toast in the morning, with Smart Balance on it. I get my "fix" this way.

True true.  I only average a pound or a pound and a half every week.

Carbohydrates always make my head hurt.  We love pasta in our household.  We don't eat it every day, but we really do enjoy it.  And when I was pregnant with Carleigh, I craved pizza.  Every day.  So when it comes to carbs, I do have a hard time saying no.

And why are oranges so bad?  Is it just because of their water content?   I only ask because I eat two oranges at night after my workouts.  lol

Well, I'm no doc, but I'd say that oranges have a relatively high fructose level - they're awfully sweet. At least the good ones are.

It's true about the more one weighs, the more one loses (at the start). Then it starts getting tough......

I couldn't catch what the hooker said because my head was spinning around too fast. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

That is 10000000x true!  My husband dropped 50 lbs in a couple of months.  I hate him.  :rotf:

I only ask because I eat two oranges at night after my workouts.  lol

Orange facts:

I found this back in the summer on juices compared with Coke....I was shocked!!

Don't know about the rest of you, but my kids rarely got pop when they were little...but they went through apple and grape juice by the gallons!!! Good thing they both have really high metabolisms....even at their current ages - 29 and 31 - because they both still drink a lot of apple juice.  :thatsright:
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.

A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands.

Dropped another pound.

Peed and pooped first before you weighed, huh?

You are really going to tick off Mrs. E if you keep dropping them so fast!!  :hammer:

Seriously, though, I'm happy for you that you are doing so well. Changing eating habits are really hard for us food-loving cooks.  :bawl:

I was "bad" last night....not only did I have a mug of home-made tomato basil soup - which wasn't tooooo terribly bad, just didn't eat any protein with it. I only had half a mug, cause I followed it with warmed up bread pudding I made the night before.  :whistling:

I used an Italian panettone for the bread, put semi-sweet chocolate chips all through the cubes, and made a cinnamon egg cream custard to pour over it. Then made a warm butter orange/cinnamon sauce for the top.  I did only eat a 2x2x2" cube of it though.  :-)

Two hours later, I was eating nuts to get some protein and stop the "sugar shakes".... :banghead:

But of course! I always weigh lightest after my morning constitutional. Don't you?  :lmao:

Yeah, Mrs E isn't too fond of me right now. She actually said, in a somewhat icy tone, "You know, our weight loss is probably about the same when you calculate it on a percentage of body weight basis."  :rotf:

I said, "I'm sure you're right, dear."

I am addicted to food - usually the wrong kind of food. Ice cream is my worst. I can dispose of a quart of butter pecan faster than you can dispose of a handful of nuts, and enjoy the brain freeze in the process.   :p
