TN Senate panel approves bill requiring photo ID to vote

NASHVILLE - A Senate committee today approved legislation requiring that voters present a photo identification before casting ballots in future Tennessee elections.

The State and Local Government Committee approved the bill 6-3 with all Republicans on the panel voting yes and Democrats no.

Similar bills have been defeated in past years, but proponents say big Republican majorities in both the House and Senate this session likely assure passage.

1. Those assholes care not a shit that Tennesseans over 70 are not presently required

to have a photo ID on their driver's license.

The elderly are less likely to commit voter fraud . But why do they have an exemption to having a picture on their state issued ID?

2. Gotta agree with the righties on this one.

Requiring identification to cast a ballot seems like sort of a no brainier to me. With that said, they should also be giving or at least offering a receipt of your vote and ensure you can verify the hard copy they would use in the case of any recount matches your desired vote. Again, seems like a no brainier and I don't see why every state hasn't implemented this. Assuming of course every state offers photo ids that are not associated to driving which I believe to be the case but only require legal residency.

Enjoy your short stay at DU, you lousy freeper troll. Alert!!!!

...if you don't want to show a picture ID...all you have to do is fill out an affidavit of identification...then you can cast your vote just like everyone else...

If this guy is a lousy freeper troll, he's a really lousy one. A proof from the polls of how you voted was what the dems used to pay for votes in the good old pre-ACORN days. I'm sure they still have workers inside the polls who give vote sellers a ticket of proof that they can take to their ward heeler for a pack of smokes or a forty.

I figured your ID in vegas would have to have a picture of Benjamin Franklin on it or you wouldn't get anything.

Reminds me of when me an "Toots" got married. Ya had to be 18 to gamble and as soon as "Toots" walked thru the door they asked for ID. I was a gentleman and only made her wait in the car for about 45 minutes.

They don't bug me on the slot floor because I have a player's card for every single casino.  They won't card you if they see those because you have to be 21 & over to get one.

A cashier at Sam's Club said I looked like a baby when I purchased some alcohol a couple weeks ago.  She wanted that ID immediately.  But I don't get carded at Walmart, Smith's, or Albertson's.  Maybe the cashier wanted to make me feel better.  lol

Poor, old DUmmies... they're being disenfranchised by those mean ole Republicans. :sad1:

As far as alcohol and tobacco purchases, the law here only requires identification if you "appear" to be under 40.

We had just got married, so you can imagine how my thoughtfulness went over! But damn, we were in Vegas for cryin' out loud! I'd been livin' with her for months!!!! Wasn't my fault she was under age!

Whats worse is we had a flat on the way and I lost the wedding ring changin' the tire! We were pretty broke, so it was just a gold band, but ya'd think I'd just lost the Damn Hope Diamond!!! What can I say, I put the keys to the trunk in the same pocket I had the ring in and..............

We got married with a ring I made from a nickel a few years before.  I wore it on my pinky finger. Hell, I had to wrap it with band-aids so it wouldn't fall off her little digit! I'm the one who had to make sacrifices for cripes sake, and she just didn't see it that way!!!!

We laugh about it now, but I thought we were gonna have to get a divorce the same night we got married! Women just have no sense of humor. hehehehehehehehehehe

She still smacks me every time I remind her of it!!!!

DUmmies getting a wad in their panties over Tennessee requiring voters prove who they are before they cast a ballot.  Something we've been doing here in Virginia for all my voting life (since 1977), and probably before that.

They sure do get agitated when it gets harder and harder to commit voter fraud.

I look at all the things that are stupid as hell that require me to show ID, and yet probably the most important civic duty a civilian can perform requires nothing.  And then the DUmmies get pissed when they realize they can't cheat the system anymore.  WFW.

In deep blue moonbat CT, we had to show pic ID.  Here in NY, we have to sign our name, which gets matched to the original sig by a team of civic-minded little old ladies.

NY has made it a personal and financial disaster if any shop owner sells booze or cigs to minors.  They will confiscate your store and bankrupt you.  So, you have to show an ID to buy those items, even if you're 100 years old.

CT. is interesting, driving to Maine for my sons graduation I and 2 kids stopped at a camp ground for the night.  We had no camping equipment just blankets to sleep on the ground with----I had driven for 12 hours straight and needed to get some rest.  However this was a Sunday and I was in need of a ice cold beer.  I drove to a quick stop and got there 5 minutes before they closed the beer coolers,   At that time on a Sunday all beer and wine sales stopped at 6 pm. on a Sunday.       However the next morning at 6:30  am when I stopped for coffee and breakfast the coolers were open to sell beer and wine.

Tenn. in the wet county's are also fun, if one gets out of work after midnight the quick stores will have paper bags on the counter and a police radio going full blast.   Walk in, pick up a bag, go the cooler place a six pack in it with price tag up, the counter person will look into the bag and see only the price and you are on your way. No ID required.

California blew my mind, coming from a state with Green Fronts--State Liqueur Stores   What a surprise to find in the vegetable and fruit section bottles of Vodka and Rum.

We have the problem of identification here now, police will send an 18 year old into a bar with a fake ID, get served and the server and management get huge fines.  This I believe is entrapment,.   Then there are people that are rather large that can really hold their liqueur..  They go bar hopping and on the way home have an accident.  They sue the last bar that served them and perhaps all the bars they went to for not beaning able to tell what their tolerance for booze is.     Some folks can drink a pint of Vodka and win 6 out of 7 games of horse shoe, drive a car or fly a plane, then there are those that cannot walk out the door after 2 drinks.

Put the blame on those that over imbibe, business men are not responsible for what customers do with their products,  any more then a hardware store is responsible for a customer that buys light bulbs, goes to the men's room and shoves them up their Ass.
