Well, if you missed it, Christina Aguilera was selected for some unfathomable reason to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl this evening. The current practice for singers who cannot carry a tune is to perform in a style best described as "urban yodeling". It sucks beyond belief, but you can't get away from urban yodelers if you listen to very much music. Most female singers, and nearly all black female singers, are urban yodelers.

Christina Aguilera messed up the words to the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Personally, I think some singers try to put so much into the anthem, they forget the most important part of the song…. the words and melody. This was not a great rendition even if she HAD remembered all the words.

Yep, she was so intent on sounding all cool and black, with soulful caterwauling screams, she forgot the words and made up her own butchered lyrics. Surprisingly, people noticed. It was, after all, the National Anthem.

I am really tired of singers adding so much ad lib affectation that it becomes either unrecognizable or just plain irritating.
The amazing part is so many DUmmies agree, and so far not one claim of racism. I mean, if you didn't like the job Aguilera did, then you're insulting nearly all contemporary urban vocals.

I honestly think she was trying to put so much "soul" into the song…. she forgot the words. I'm hoping the recent criticism singers have been taking for greatly altering the words and melody of the anthem will lead to a change.
No way. They would have to stop singing. The whole purpose of the urban yodel is to disguise an inability to sing.

Do they get these pop stars who cannot sing the National Anthem????????????? And jazz it up to cover up for the fact that they can't sing??????? I hate- hate -hate to hear this beautiful, (though difficult to sing) song just ruined. The most beautiful singing of the Anthem I've ever heard was the Marine, or maybe it was the Naval mens chorus. Absolutely beautiful.

I thought the Glee girl did a pretty good job of God Bless America until she did that weird high note thing.  She would have been a better choice for the National Anthem.

Major suckage. In fact, every single thing about this Super Bowl was purely awful, except the game itself. The NFL and Jerry Jones should be ashamed, but I don't think that emotion is possible for the man who fired Tom Landry.

Prior to tonight, I knew nothing about the Black Eyed Peas except that they suck which I knew from watching Red Eye.  But I didn't know they sucked that bad.  The best thing about them is that no matter how bad they sucked, the Packers still won.

About the only commercial that was decent was the one for the VW Passat with the little lid dressed up as Dick Cheney Darth Vader, trying to use the Force on anything and everything in his parents' house.  Even then the commercial was cut 30 seconds or so.  I saw the full commercial online and LMAO.

Just goes to show how we southerners always do it better. Here's Little Big Town doing an excellent job at the 2011 Cotton Bowl between Texas A&M and LSU.

I think I need to be on a heart monitor for the next 24 hours or so.  I don't know that me ticker can take all those DUmmies being in general agreement with me.  I may just have to take the next week or so and re-evaluate every assumption I cling to, trying to locate where I erroneously went left.

That was a good one and the one with the beaver who cut down the tree to save the dude's life was a good one too.

The "kid in the candy store" one was clever but went on too long.

That was the most ridiculous half time show I've seen in my life! I can't believe people actually pay to hear their music! And what's with the white chick tryin' to act black? There was a line in Vegas bettin' on whether or not she was goin' to have a costume malfunction like Janet Jackson!

Major suckage is the word for it, because they were that bad. It took until the start of the 2nd half to restore the energy.
