If you lived near a stream or a brook with enough water flow, you could use a "ram pump" to pump water into the tank.  I have one here I used to use to water cows from a nearby stream.  It takes about 20 gallons of waterflow to pump a gallon, but it's simple, maintence free, requires no electricity.

I wouldn't use my stream water to drink, however.  Neighbor has too many "bovines" upstream.   :naughty:

There used to be a lot of those old "ram pumps" around here. They were used to pump water into a tank in the upper part of old homes for kitchen/bath water.

I wouldn't drink the city water in my high school building because I knew what had been in it. The stream that furnished the city water ran thru our pasture.... :-)

I've lived near homes within the last 6 years in quite nice areas that would qualify under the terms this DUmmie set out.  There were at least 4 homes near me on the downhill slope of the mountain whose water was underground springfed.  Without an electric pump their pressure was nothing to write home about, but they still had water.

There were a few smaller places around whose owners were doing the off grid thing and used handpumps to access the closest aquifer.  They wanted to live that way.

That is how the DUmmies want the rest of us to live as well.  They call it "living green" or "being one with nature" or some such shit as that.  Now, it's "living in poverty".

I wish DUmmies would either make up their minds, or aquire a mind to make up.  Their stupidity is giving me a headache.

:rotf:  I know what you mean.  I've always had spring/well water all my life, still do.

My uncle owned the land upstream from the town's water treatment plant, and he had a significant number of beef cattle pastured there.   :naughty:

Good point, and only one of the millions of contradictions surrounding the leftie libs.

Around here, one only has to drive 15 minutes and you'll encounter people still using outhouses.  They're called The Amish.  (Non-Amish still do, too for that matter, we've got some strange birds).

We have Mennonites here right outside of Augusta. They can build a damn good home.

....then to counter the good, you have the Irish Travelers (Gypsies) right across the river in South Carolina. They can pour you a 2" thick driveway and tell you not to drive on it for 3 days (enough for them to leave town). Once you drive on it, it cracks like peanut brittle. Bunch of freaks.

....or paint your tin top with silver seal coat cut with diesel fuel. First good rain and it's gone....or do you an asphalt drive with some left over from another drive(uh huh, sure)....same thing with shingling your roof....all while their women and children are robbing WAL-MART blind.

I know spring is near when they pass thru here heading out to fleece the world.

Wow!  We don't have any of those, I've never encountered one in my life.  On occasion, the DUmmies over there will lament the plight of the "Romas."  They've brought every trouble in the world down on themselves.

Hell, they live 5 miles outside of Augusta in Edgefield County at Murphy's Estates, SC.

Yeah, they parade them around for marriage at 12 years old.... only 3 to 6 years above Muslim standards.

Yup--we get those up here with the offers to reseal driveways.  That's always good for a laugh when someone can't get their garage doors open after they're done and skipped town.

In a lot of cases it's the elderly who get duped.  Another common scam around here is the, "Oh, the bank didn't take your check, can you write me another one" bit.  It's amazing the number of people who fall for it.

I think it's a damn shame that I have to keep taking my grill' propane bottle and exchanging it for a new one. That's a travesty. I have to actually do it myself? Screw that. The government needs to come in and install a gas line directly to my grill. I demand it. GAS PIPE NOW!

  • All in all, not bad, not bad at all

When I was a kid, most summers a long caravan of gypsies would come through town. They drove big Cadillacs, pulling little hump-backed camping trailers, like the one poor, stupid Beth lives in. The police would meet them at the edge of town, and escort them to the other side, not allowing them to stop. Sometimes they would camp outside of town, but they were closely watched by the police and I never saw one of them in town "on the hoof". The grownups told us they would steal babies, and that they ate robins, so they were pretty scary. Then the first time I was in Europe, I found out they were as bad as advertised the first time a bunch of gypsy kids tried to swarm me in Rome. They really are vermin.

When I think of no running water, I think of a person getting the butt up off the couch(gasp) going to well or another waterway outside their home(lack of indoor plumbing), filling a pail with water and bringing it inside. How many people still do this in this country?

I do it every time I go campin' or huntin'! I'll bet they count all us hunters in that "study"! I'm depraved and downtrodden! Whoda thunk?

Wells these days use a pumping system that connects to a home's internal plumbing. There's very little difference between city water, and well water...other than quality. Well is better. Problem is, it takes an individual money to purchase the pump and have the well drilled. DUmmies can't fathom that. They want the government doing everything for them. ...then again, guess what the wife's Pop's water bill is per month, disregarding the small amount of electricity used.

I had a tank in the ground that I hauled water into about once every two weeks about 10 years ago, but once we started to increase the livestock, we drilled a well.

Stuff was okay for the livestock, but had way to much iron in it for the house. Had to put a water softner in.

I was on well water until about 5 years ago when the local Co Op came by with artiesian from about 4 miles away.

Just replaced my old iron septic tank for one of those new fangled concrete jobs two years ago.

Guess I'm only half way there from livin' in poverty!

Hey that's fun to rough it!!! pitchin a tent, digging a toilet, washing up in the creek. Builds character!!!

however, IMHO people with large campers(nothing wrong with these if one can afford it) that is not roughing it.... :-)

Above-ground water in Kansas is seldom potable these days, too many critters and too much nitrogen in the fertilizers.  The well water at my brother's house is absolutely the best water in the world.  I'm sure Uncle Sam will have to find a way to outlaw people pumping water out of the ground though...just like he'll replace petroleum taxes with a tax on the amount of sun that falls on your house/property.

Oh, the difference is easy to tell...if you're doing it on your own dollar, you're living in horrible poverty.  If you're doing it with government money, you're living green.  :rotf: :rotf:
