I guess I am confused as those new teachers are not tenured, and as such are not voting members of the union -- the union is agreeing to this?

Does anyone know what part of Kansas she is from so I can find an article on this?   I am betting that the district wants to restructure their pay scales, and this halfwit doesn't have a clue as to what that means so she just makes stuff up.

The Die alte Sau teaches for the Kansas City, Missouri, public school system.

The Die alte Sau however actually lives on the Kansas side of Kansas City, one of the suburbs.

The article obviously pertains to a non-Kansas City school, but one of the suburbs.

I am working on my introductory speech.

"Good Morning. My name is Mr. Dutch and I am your new teacher. For the last 28 years I have been blowing #@%$ up and killing people in defense of this great country. I have served in five conflicts across the globe, been shot and blown up by people who want to kill you because we live in a free society. I will now focus all that training, experience, and modivation on teaching you.

What are your questions at this time?"

Too gentle, unless you are teaching 7th grade Home Economics, or Choir.   :-)

I have a degree in education. My dad, wise man that he is, constantly told me I'd never make enough to pay for my education. He was right, but I was all, "Oh dad, I'm not doing it for the money, blah, blah, blah." I made it 5 years and realized that money actually did make me happy.  My starting salary was 21k in 1991, and I think I would've capped out at 40k. I got tired of not having a lot of money to play with, so I went a different direction. I'm so glad I did.  Even though I think my degree is a joke, my work as a teacher actually helped me in various careers where I had to patiently talk to clients and explain things in ways that made sense.

I was lucky. I taught in a middle/upper middle class neighborhood in TX where parents expected their kids to behave and make good grades. They weren't perfect, but they were pretty good kids and I had fun for awhile.  I'm sure a few teachers were part of a union, but that wasn't a popular topic, and I don't know anyone personally who was a member. I would've left sooner if I had to put up with that.

What's confusing me is why she's upset.  I thought, being a DUmmie, especially Top Dog, she'd be happy to sacrifice for the good of the all.  DUmmies are always talking about how anyone who bitches about the deficit and taxes should be giving their refunds back.  Why doesn't p2 feel all warm and fuzzy inside that she's helping out her fellows and giving them their chance?
Could it be that she's a selfish bitch?  My goodness!

I did too.

That's what truly shocks me, that the Die alte Sau isn't happy about giving up the surplus she has, so as to ameliorate the deficits of others.

Isn't that what being a Democrat, liberal, and primitive is supposed to mean, for the greater good?

You nailed it, and it's long past time we called Democrats, liberals, and primitives on this.

so they can pay new teachers more.

Just think of it as a tax or redistribution of wealth. Hell libs advocate taking from one person and giving to another and here we have this happening and she is bitching. Quit being so damn greedy and allow the new teachers to have higher pay and level the playing field.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

I googled news stories in the KC, MO area and also searched the papers in that area & found absolutely nothing.  What a shocker. :whatever:

Starting pay in Kansas is 31K for new teachers (before taxes). I know because I am finally retiring and going back to teach those little ****heads.

Good luck Dutch.  A lot of guys get out and go through state programs designed to supply inner city schools with teachers, then they find out just how ****ed up the families are and how corrupt the school district is and chuck it after a year in disgust.

If you can do it in a way that lets you pick a district that isn't populated by kids too stupid and unmotivated to qualify for gang membership, and that isn't blowing all the tax money on two extended "Study" or "Training" trips abroad for the $250K+ Superintendant and his inner circle every year with district-owned cars for all of them, you'll have a much better experience with it.

Or find a decent private/Catholic (if you're inclined) school. The pay is worse, but the kids are easier because the parents are motivated.

And the perks tend to be pretty nice at a private school.

Let's tear into this. $30k for about seven months of work. Great health care insurance with no premium participation or deductibles.  In kalifornia the teachers do not pay into SS or Medicare.

Amortize for typical work year:
$30k*12/7=$51.4K if working the whole year.

Amortize for not paying FICA and Medicare (7.65% and 1.45% respectively):
$51.4K/.91=$56.48K
*Also these people do not help keep the all important SS and medicare solvent...what greedy bastards.

Cadillac health care insurance adder to private industry:
Estimate that at $400/month = $4800/year I think this is a severe underestimation.

Total amortized compensation: $61.3K

That is one hell of a starting salary in the private sector.

Remember that when a teacher cries about how little they make. They chose to have more free time versus more hours and more money.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
