Quote
Miami (CNN) -- Two Florida police officers died following a shootout with a murder suspect Thursday in Miami, authorities said.

"It's shocking. It's hurtful," said an emotional Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez, adding that he knew both slain officers personally, having been the police department's former director. "Really, I can't put it into words."

The suspect also died in the exchange of gunfire. A third police officer was being treated at Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital after suffering what Lt. Rosanna Cordero-Stutz of the Miami-Dade Police Department deemed a "minor injury."

God bless those officers and their families. The officers, a man and a woman, stepped up and did their duty at the cost of their lives.

Thank God the perp was taken out. Adding insult to injury by having a court case is beyond the pale. Bury that sonofabitch in an unmarked grave and piss on the dirt to water it down.

That's it, we need laws saying murderers can't own guns.

They knew the risks when they signed up.

My prayers to their families for their loss.

Seems strange that Police use SWAT and para-military tactics with dynamic entry to catch middle aged drug users, families, shoot dogs in the yard and low level dumb asses,  but don't on a guy with a 5 page rap sheet and a known dangerous POS. I wonder why SWAT wasn't used or  has something to do with the inner conflict ongoing in Miami between the sheriff and the Mayor

May God comfort these officers families

On another conservative forum, someone mentioned that we never hear about SWAT Teams breaking down the doors of the crips and blood and gang bangers.

Just because you don't hear about it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.  It happens all the time.  As a point of reference, do a Google search on our crackdown on MS13.  That took high risk raids all across the country to break their back.

They knew the risks when they signed up.

My prayers to their families for their loss.

Yes Rich, we all know the risk of everyday life, and we all sign up for it everytime we get in a car or allow the kids outside to play.

However, we seldom are in the position where we may have to die doing our job unless we are combat troops, police, firefighters or game wardens.

Those that know the risks and face them every day for OTHERS are the Hero's in life.  Even when off duty they still face risks same as you or I BUT this is their calling, their purpose in life.

Those that know the risks of protecting others when they could earn money sitting at a safe job with no worries are the top of the human chain, GOD BLESS them and their family's especially the family's who support and have much pride in them.

God bless those who make a choice to protect perfect strangers with their lives.   So Rich, when was the last time you ran into a burning building to rescue a stranger, stepped in front of a mad man and took a bullet for another.?   Ever done CPR on someone that you know has AIDS and get their body fluids in your mouth.? Ever climbed to the top of a very high level bridge to rescue someone that is a pervert or murderer.

Yes they sign up for the job as do the men and woman who join the military.  Darn Rich you got me going here.   Yes they know the risks but do the job come hell or high water.  WE cannot survive without people like them,  you saying that they knew the risks is shamefull.

Knowing the risks is much different from knee jerk reaction and jumping into a lake to rescue someone when you forget you yourself cannot swim.

Vesta, they knew they weren't signing up to be school crossing guards.  They volunterred for the job.  I respect them for it.  They knew it might someday cost their lives and they still signed up.

Vesta, they knew they weren't signing up to be school crossing guards.  They volunteered for the job.  I respect them for it.  They knew it might someday cost their lives and they still signed up.

By your thinking every woman who faces child birth knows that she may die giving birth--so why not abortion to prevent their risk.

Even a school crossing guard faces risks from drunk drivers or drive by shootings.

There is no such thing as a life of no risk, eat that extra Twinkies and you may have a heart attack.

Life is a huge risk as long as we are breathing, one does not live forever in a coocon, if something don't get you, then a simple popped zit can cause infection.   A spider bite, you name it.

Just by living we face risks, but those that go the extra mile not to protect themselves but jump in, get trained to protect others and yes that School Crossing guard will protect the kids from harm with their life if need be.

We only go this way once, some for a short time some for a ripe old age, we cannot control our birth or death, it comes to all of us.

We can live anyway we wish, but by golly, when I go, I want the path to lead to doing something good for others, why should I waste a spent life at any age on myself.??

Yup you have met crazy old Vesta---

We're not heroes.  As it was stated above, we know the risks when we sign up for this job.  We know the salary and the benefits before we're even sworn in.  When our ranks are thinned by murder or accidents, yes, it sucks, but we knew it could and would happen to at least one of us.  We train and train and train for that possibility, so we're pretty prepared when it happens.  True heroes are the people who do extraordinary things, even when they're not trained or prepared to do so.  My personal heroes are abused women who stand up to their abusers and brave the court system.  But me?  I'm not hero.  Neither are my cohorts.
