Vesta, they knew they weren't signing up to be school crossing guards. They volunteered for the job. I respect them for it. They knew it might someday cost their lives and they still signed up.
By your thinking every woman who faces child birth knows that she may die giving birth--so why not abortion to prevent their risk.
Even a school crossing guard faces risks from drunk drivers or drive by shootings.
There is no such thing as a life of no risk, eat that extra Twinkies and you may have a heart attack.
Life is a huge risk as long as we are breathing, one does not live forever in a coocon, if something don't get you, then a simple popped zit can cause infection. A spider bite, you name it.
Just by living we face risks, but those that go the extra mile not to protect themselves but jump in, get trained to protect others and yes that School Crossing guard will protect the kids from harm with their life if need be.
We only go this way once, some for a short time some for a ripe old age, we cannot control our birth or death, it comes to all of us.
We can live anyway we wish, but by golly, when I go, I want the path to lead to doing something good for others, why should I waste a spent life at any age on myself.??
Yup you have met crazy old Vesta---
