I'll admit I don't get to watch news like I'd like to,but what has your experience been?is there any interest in this on a national basis?

An odd thing happened, after Obama took over as commander in chief the media quit covering the wars constantly.
Another odd occurrence, was the war protesters suddenly got all quiet too.
It was just like in Revenge of the Sith when they shut down all the battle droids after the Emperor took control.

Very little coverage if any.  The MSM hates covering success. They're more interested when my fellow soldiers are dying.

Not to mention...like the homeless...anti-war sentiments dry up with a (D) in office!
The libs/dems of today are the Quislings of former years. The cowards who would vote a fraud into office in exchange for handouts from the devil.

Right on Freeper.  Yet they claim the media is right wing?  :mental:  Your right, the protesters, where are all the frikkin protesters?  Same wars, where did all that outrage go?

3. Democracy Now reports the wars as do Al jazeera

and LinkTV's Mosaic. I never watch network news or other corporate cable news except Al Jazeera. They're worthless on most topics, not only on the war.

She trusts Al Jazeera and DU as her sources of "news".  :thatsright:  ****in liberals.

The lack of coverage baffles me too. Some folks think that is because we are winning and/or war opponents support Obama and don't want success stories out there. I suspect the opposite - we are not winning. I don't mean not winning in the sense of blowing Taliban away when they make the mistake of popping their heads out from behind their women and children shields. They always lose when they have the guts to stand and fight. But, they have figured out that standing and fighting isn't the way to win. Waiting and surviving is the way to win.

Stories I am hearing back from Baghram and people deployed to FOBs aren't just disheartening, they are downright creepy. One the one hand you have the failed and hopelessly corrupt Karzai government - it is totally useless and will remain that way. Karzai is negotiating with Taliban to let them back in after we leave (maybe before then). On the other hand you have Afghani people and their culture. What culture? Everything from weekly pedophile parties by Afghani police or ANA on base to ANA at FOBs not bothering to even show up at training sessions to teach them how to keep their brains straight under fire. They only care about getting a pay check and absolutely nothing else. They don't care squat about us or our efforts to help them. They don't care if we stay or go - maybe most of them prefer we leave. After all this time, this is all we have to show for our blood and treasure. It's disgusting.

I think the press is quiet because they don't want us to know what is really going on in the big picture sense. I think the big picture is a patient enemy willing to wait decades if necessary until the American public finally says enough, get out. Once that happens, and it will sooner or later, we will lose because we will have been unable to set up anything close to a real Democracy with functional institutions strong enough to stand on their own. I hope I am wrong, but I think we are hosed.

As someone who is on the ground here.  I disagree.

Karzai is corrupt and water is wet.  You can't take a Taxi ride in this country without someone skimming from the top.  This place is succeeding on the local level despite Karzai.  Down at the grass roots level there are success stories left and right.

Not sure who you've been talking to...but I'd sure like to know who the hell is talking about things they have no clue about.

Either that or you really need to stop getting your news on what we are doing here from TruthOut.

The press is quiet because they aren't coming here anymore.  Just like in  Iraq when things started going our way they stopped signing up for embeds with the units.

We've got moronic "news" magazines like The Nation taking and reprinting Taliban press releases without even the whiff of a disclaimer about the lies that are tol;d within them.

There hasn't been a U.S. journalist embed in Uruzgan province in the 7 months I've been here.

Not sure what point you were trying to make...but it sure is an uninformed one.

"We are not at war with West Asia, we have always been at war with East Asia."  Or so the NY Times, the Washington Post, and the alphabet networks seem to be saying.

One might be lead to conclude the oposition wasn't so much about a principled stance against the war so much as it was about opposing a duly elected CinC while emboldening the enemy at the expense of young American blood.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

One might, indeed, if one weren't a totally shameless Democrat partisan.

In my estimation they DO cover the war. However it's all about how they "care" for the troops......... :whatever:
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

  • Skip Tracing by Contract Only!
The only time we here of our servicemen is when the MSM wants to tell us how many were killed or wounded last month!

****in' traitors, all of 'em!

They will never tell us of our victories, at least not as long as the messiah is in office, if it were Bush, we'd be hearin' every day of our failures!

****in' traitors! The left owns the media across the public airwaves other than talk radio! And if Obiewan has his way, he is goin' to shut us up!

The only reason the left has power is because they control what most Americans hear! My grandparents never listened to anything else except the alphabet network. Our only hope is in our children, and if we keep lettin' the teachers union indoctrinate them, we're ****ed for sure!

What's that song, "Teach Your Children Well"? At least that's the lyrics. Granted it was composed by left wing nutjobs, but it sure as hell has meaning these days!
I'm the guy your mother warned you about!

I have been looking for Afghanistan success stories from the media or from DoD itself (http://www.defense.gov/releases/; http://www.defense.gov/transcripts/). There are a few (http://www.defense.gov/transcripts/transcript.aspx?transcriptid=4754), but in general the situation is generally portrayed as mediocre at beast. Information I get back from an officer at Baghram isn't encouraging either. I suspect there is more positive there than what we hear, but I can't get a handle on it. No one seems willing to talk up the good stuff, whatever it is. Why?
