Handicapped Parking Enforcement

I had a discussion with the Sherman, TX Police Dept as to whether or not they would like a volunteer force to go around and write tickets for those who abuse the handicapped parking. I spoke with the Captain in charge of personnel today. It seems like it is a go, but they have a few things to get done. They need to check out all of the legal issues that may be involved, get approval from the City Council, develop a training program, look for additional volunteers, and some other trivial things. It feels kind of nice to get the ball rolling on an issue near and dear to me. I was told it may take two, maybe three months to get started. That's cool.  Where I live, I don't have an HOA, but we do have a Neighborhood Association.  It is strictly voluntary, we meet once a quarter to discuss crime in our area and ways to improve it as well.  Within walking distance from my house, I have an elementary and a middle school.  Some of the retired members in our association are designated Citizen Patrollers.  They monitor the roads to insure our school zone limits aren't abused.  Surprisingly enough, it does.  All of our association work is done in with approvals with our city councilman, and our beat officers.

I would love to do that. I see this abuse all the time by young bucks/bitches who are 30 or more years younger than me. I want to ask them if their handicap is mental or just plain lead in the ass.

I think it's an awesome idea.  I would be a bit concerned for the safety of the volunteers; people don't like tickets and could get irate or irrational.  Another point of interest is that, here in NC anyway, parking lots are private property, which is why there is next to no enforcement of Handicap Parking.  I would love to see something like your idea here!

Good for you, Thor.

That crap pisses me off.  We have people in our apartment complex that feel entitled to park in the handicap spots all the time.  I've left notes for them.  I've left a note that says, "I should break your legs and give you a real reason to park in this spot."

I'm not handicap, do not need a handicap stall, but my uncle was handicap and my grandma needed those stalls for him and his wheelchair.  It always angered me when there was a Corvette parked in a handicap stall with their flashers on.  I don't care if you're going in and out real quick, park else where and get some exercise.  Lazy asses.

Naw, I don't have a gate, yet.  But where my boyfriend lives?  His across-the-street neighbor built one, an iron one, with automated doors over the driveway.  It's attached on both sides to a poor excuse of a chain-link/barbed wire 3 foot fence.   :lmao:
