Quote
A group of House Republicans introduced a bill on Wednesday to rein in the various "czars" in the Obama administration.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) and 28 other House Republicans introduced legislation to do away with the informal, paid advisers President Obama has employed over the past two years.

The legislation, which was introduced in the last Congress but was not allowed to advance under Democratic control, would do away with the 39 czars Obama has employed during his administration.

Good.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Even though these bills will never pass I hope they keep reintroducing them. Let the American people know they're trying to tame spending and government overreach and just who's standing in the way.

The entire "czar" thing is out of control, but to be fair, GWB had a shitload of czars too.

Wiki says a few things that might shed some light on this czar bullshit thing - first of all, that the list is subjective because the term "czar" is not used in an official sense. One man's "czar" is another man's "policy spokesman".

According to the Wiki source, as flaky as it is, GWB had 35 "czars". Zero is right up there with 39.

The numbers are meaningless, though. The fact is, these "czars" are supplanting and eroding Congress's authority, especially when they're appointed during congressional recess and not confirmed by the Senate.

That's the reason that the "czar" thing has to die a quick death.

Yeah what you said.
I'm loving how they are doing things like this right off the bat. I hope in 2 years they still are fighting the good fight, even if every bill get's smacked down, they will be sending a message, and hopefully will have reinforcements in 2012.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Hi,

There is a major difference between activity and accomplishment.  This morning I read about a bill being introduced to take away the FCC's right to regulate the internet.  Now I see a bill to reign in the "czars".

We all have to hope the members of congress don't introduce the bills, have them pass in the house, fail in the senate or the president vetos them......and then they shrug their shoulders and say I did my job.

They will have not done a damn thing until the czars are gone, and the government is reigned in.  Granted they need the activity to start the ball rolling, but they are a long way from getting the job done.

+1.  And the biggest reason why I'm reserving judgement on the 112th Congress.
