The unemployment offices are a complete disaster

I went down and tried to file for unemployment today. FYI there are still FAR more people than the state can keep up with. I was told I could go on a waiting list to talk to someone possibly in 20-30 days. Either that or try a phone number which I tried for two hours and got nothing but never ending music.

Something has to be done about the jobs situation in this country. I don't know how long it's going to take to even find a job. A few years ago I could have a job in two days. Not anymore.
25 years ago we had Ronald Reagan, Johnny Cash and Bob Hope.  Now we have Obama, no hope and no cash.

Been that way in CA for I think 10 years. In what state do you live?

I thought the first reply would ask if he get it since he was fired for cause.

I wonder what changed. :whatever:

A hard left turn in January 07 and then a very hard left turn in January 09.

Hate to tell the DUmbass but the jobs market is not going to change until the communist in the white house is gone.  Even then it will take two years to begin to build confidence in the federal government enough to bring back capital.  That's if and only if the bureaucracies in WDC are cut down to size.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I think you're right about that, but even three years ago, telling an employer you were fired from your last job because you showed up for work drunk didn't fly even then. Most states will deny benefits.

Are people allowed to collect unemployment when they're fired? especially fired for drinking on the job?

Depends.  Showing up drunk is definitely a disqualifying factor.  No IU for you, Twix.

It depends a little on the employee, the employer, and the state.  I was talking to my HR one time about firing an employee for cause, he demostrably lied on his resume, and was told that the state of Maryland makes the documentation for firing so onerous that it was faster and cheaper just to lay him off and cite a lack of work to the state.

I wondered the same thing in the original thread from DU where he/she was fired.

I thought UI was for people who were laid off/separated from their job over no fault of their own.

One thing bothers me. DUmmies lie, all the time. I don't remember ever seeing threads by DUmmy Twix bragging about snagging a job at Whole Foods, or anywhere else. I  was absent from the DUmp a while, so maybe I just missed it, but my natural inclination is to doubt that Twix has been fired, because it's hard to believe he was employed in the first place, after the meltdown at Target and his subsequent rampant drug and alcohol abuse. And incidentally, if DUmmy Twix had been able to follow his own advice a two or three years ago, abandoning the stock market in favor of gold bars, he'd be sitting pretty today. If his investment portfolio had doubled, it would be worth upwards of a thousand dollars today.

Not in most places.  Of course he'll lie, and an overwhelmed UE office may not check with the employer, but ultimately some costs of claims come back to the employer and they are supposed to be notified and given an opportunity to say whether or not it was for cause...which leads to a certain amount of lying on the employer end of it, and so the UE offices won't necessarily take the employer's 'For cause' response at face value.

Generally bad employees who get fired for cause don't exactly claim it wasn't for cause, they'll say it was written up that way but that the 'cause' wasn't true, and the whole thing was really just a subterfuge to fire them for some improper reason, like disability or race/gender/ethnic/religious discrimination.

They may or may not give him benefits while they figure out which one they want to believe, depends on the location.  In normal times the UE offices range from ruthlessly hardhearted to giving the employee every benefit of the doubt, but with so many people drawing benefits for so long now, most of them are more tightfisted than usual.

I'm sure the Twixie Pixie will come up with a tale of rationalization that will rival the Pittmeister or the unlamented MythSage in its fanciful embroidery of a few threads of truth in a grand tapestry of total BS.

Oh, wow! I had forgotten all about DUmmy Mythsaje! The DUmbass "novelist" who rejected coach's best mentoring efforts by repeatedly embarrassing himself and his lone supporter (coach) with long, emotional, whiny screeds crying about the "unrec" hammer being dropped on every post he made. Mythsaje the novelist is to prose as the CalPig is to poetry.

In Nebraska, one can collect unemployment if one's been fired or voluntarily left one's job, but there's a penalty--one doesn't get the first 13 weeks of the 26 weeks allowed by unemployment.  So that's three months of no checks.

I don't know if 26 weeks is still the maximum in Nebraska--nobody I know is unemployed--given that it's now 99 weeks in the rest of the country.

I do know however that there's a stink about the fact that North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska are exempt from all of these extensions of unemployment checks--no 99 weeks here, and probably not even 52 weeks.  People in blue states can collect 99 weeks, but I don't think one can collect even 40 weeks here.  All the legislation extending the benefits specifically excluded "low-unemployment states."

The reason I'm responding to GOBUCKS here, though, is simply, yeah, I miss the Mythsaje primitive.

It's too bad the primitives chased him off Skins's island.

Come to think of it, GOBUCKS has a point.  I haven't been absent, and there were NO bragging threads about Twix landing a job at Whole Foods.  He most certainly would have posted it if that were the case.  C'mon.  Whole Foods?  The DUmme's paradise with possible employee discounts & freebies?   Perhaps his plan is to set this up to form a base for a series of bouncy tales.
