Obamacare's Medicine Cabinet Tax Hits Next Week
By ATR | 12/27/10 | 10:54 AM EST

Due to an Obamacare provision taking effect on January 1, Americans will no longer be able to use their Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) pre-tax dollars to purchase non-prescription, over-the-counter medicines (with the exception of insulin).

"I can make a firm pledge.  Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes."

--Barack Obama, September 12, 2008

And whoever the GOP nominee is in 2012 should run just that one commercial on a loop.

Lies, lies and more lies. The communist community organizer gets his way. I hope the repubs can kill this bill.
"Yes we can". Wow,......isn't that,...why yes it is. That's the same slogan from the communist USSR. What a coincidence. ::) ::) :whatever:

Just one of thousands of stupid provisions in this godforsaken POS bill.  You can use the HSA for your aspirin and Vicks Vaporub, but ONLY if you get a prescription for it.  WTF?  Who thought of this?  A whole boatload of doctors heading for the the fishing hole, and they want you to try and pester one of them for Goodie's headache powder?  Good luck getting one on the phone.

Canada had a better idea.  You can buy codeine in the drugstores and other such things on your own.  Don't bother the doctors for such small potatoes.

I think the plan was that people wouldn't bother with getting prescriptions for these things, and therefore would not be able to take the tax deduction anymore. More money for the government.

Bingo.  People are decreasing their FSA deductions, so they don't have to deal with the hassle.  Which means more taxable income.  I have a couple peeps that are onto it, and have channeled their pre-tax $ that would be in the FSA to take care of their OTC stuff into their 401K.  I am so proud.  :-)
