I know it's unseemly to troll discussion forums, begging for recs and money.
But this time it's for a good cause.

We are less than $1,500 away from our goal of raising $10,000 to help feed the hungry. Here's how you can help...

We know times are tough for many people, which is all the more reason to give. Even a modest donation of $5 or $10 can make a big difference.

Thank you for your help, and Happy Holidays.

Sorry to hear EarlG is hungry, but $1500?? What a piker! Bev Harris was only $10 away from putting Lurch Kerry in the White House, throwing W out on his ear, and the DUmp turned its back. Fat chance for EarlG's lunch fund.

They only want to feed the hungry, this seams like a worthy cause.

Maybe they could use some of the money users donate to the forum to help feed the hungry?

I ran across another thread over there where they were saying how many meals the 10 K would provide.  If I recall they were saying they would be providing 70K meals with the 10k.  Ramen noodles anyone?

eta
link to 70K meals:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x56738

I am familiar with loaves and fishes but this is equally impressive.

DUers make a difference: 70,000 meals to feed the hungry! -- Yes, I said SEVENTY THOUSAND meals!
 Imagine seventy thousand meals.

That's how many meals we can provide if we make our goal of raising $10,000 for Feeding America. Because every dollar you donate will provide 7 meals for a hungry family.

After only two days, we're already 2/3 of the way to our goal. Can we finish by this time tomorrow?

70,000 meals in three days. Let's do it!

http://help.feedingamerica.org/goto/du

Kick and recommend this thread so more people can see it!

Thank you!

This reminds me of Thanksgiving Day in the Chief S itting Bull household back in 2008.

The bird-smacking stoned red-faced primitive alleged he was feeding dozens of relatives with a ham "and a half," and a turkey breast.

What Christ did with bread and fishes apparently wasn't so impressive; Redstone apparently was able to feed the multitudes with a ham and part of a turkey.

Anyone who makes a donation to ANYTHING through the DUmp is, well, a DUmbass. They got fleeced for thousands by the aforementioned Bev Harris, they got fleeced for thousands by the redheaded queer and co-conspirators, and they get fleeced several times a year by Skimmer. We don't call them DUmmies for nothing.

THAT was a classic !

It's funny Skinner had to ask for donations.  The DUmmies brag daily about giving money to food pantries and organizations that feed the poor. You'd think they would have had that begathon wrapped up in an hour or two.

All those BIG bonuses the DUmmies were bragging about earlier in the week.  FOR SHAME.

They lie.

Instead of begging for money, take a big box of canned goods to a homeless shelter and give a few hours of time cooking and serving to the less fortunate like some of us do every month. I also take a few pot roasts that my buds have donated, with potatos, carrots, onions, etc with me. A decent pot roast costs about $15. Not alot to ask from someone once a month.

I agree.  Much better to just bring non-perishable items to your local food bank.   See with your own eyes the needs of your community.

But don't be too much like the primitive full of beans, the "Treasonous Bastard" primitive, who cooked up a 15-pound pot of beans for the homeless.  Just beans and water, nothing else.

And then she boasted to the other primitives how "inexpensive" it was.....after which she went on to describe the elaborate uninexpensive cuisine she was preparing for her family.

Or the primitive--I forget his name--who was in the kitchen preparing a bacchanalia of a feast for his family when a homeless person knocked on his door.  The primitive gave the person a peanut-butter sandwich--white bread, no jelly--and a glass of water.

There's a happy medium; if I'm fixing to have a sirloin steak with baked potato, and someone knocked on this door, I'd be sure he got at least a super-large hamburger and giant order of french fries; I wouldn't for a second dream of giving a bowl of beans or a sandwich on white bread.

I do the books for a religious charity that distributes free food; people who tend to be Democrats, liberals, and primitives donate canned fruits and vegetables, which ultimately go to waste, because even the most hungry of persons finds canned beans unappetizing.  Decent and civilized people donate things such as peanut butter, fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh bread, non-sugared cereals, frozen poultry cuts, real butter, &c., &c., &c.

But money's always best.

During one of my fellow alum Skins's fund-drives for a food-distribution charity, Chief S itting Bull said he wouldn't donate money, but he'd donate office supplies.  Another primitive said he'd donate "computer services."

Anyway, I suspect this was the first and only time the bird-smacking stoned red-faced primitive ever noticed franksolich, and he made a big stink about it.

What the tightwad Redstone was doing was no more than getting rid of no-longer-needed office supplies; stuff for which he had no more use.  Chief S itting Bull thought that was "charity;" franksolich pointed that that true charity demands authentic sacrifice--such as the bird-smacking stoned red-faced primitive giving away his main computer, for example.  True charity means one goes without, for the sake of someone else.

What Redstone was doing was simply tossing out junk.

Chief S itting Bull got pretty upset and bent out of shape about it.

I think I disagree with you Frank.

Alms for the poor is not charity it is just a way to prove to oneself that they are more successful then others.

Time on Earth is much more valuable then money that one can take a deduction on their taxes for.

Time is so precious to us, the volunteers that give their time year round,  to hospitals, nursing homes, to orphanages and homes for the disabled adults.   This is 12 months a year,  $50.00 a year to a charity is no big deal for some.

It is not charity to tithe to a Church that one attends regularly, it is for up keep on a place that is important to YOU.

Charity takes twists and turns, what is one mans junk is anthers treasure.  So, the person that wanted to donate office equipment, they could have had it over evaluated and had it destroyed and taken a tax break on the stuff.    So in a way this person was taking a hit,  tax breaks on business expensive are more then donating to Charity.

In our closets and Attics or basements we have a gold mine of stored forgotten things, blankets, cooking utensils, old glass baby bottles and sterilisers we will never use again. We may have tents and camping equipment, old but in good working condition electrical appliances that we have replaced with up dated equipment.

We do need to hord all the stuff we collect in our lives, give it away to people that can use it.  I know of people that have kept toys and clothing from their now teen age kids that for some reason keep all this in storage for YEARS.

Also people that at this time clean out their pantrys of canned goods and bottled with 2-3 months expiration date.

Nothing wrong with buying an extra ham and donating it to a food  bank, but that will last for just one meal for the hungry.    The blankets in the attic that we never use once dry cleaned--yes an expense, will keep any number of children or adults warm for 6 months.

I got my panties in a bunch over the 911 charietys raising money for the familys of the victims.  Millions and millions were raised to help the familys, we all sent in money to help THEM.    Then we found out that 90% of the money was used for other causes that we may not have wanted to donate to.

Then a couple of years later I read that the female head of the Red Cross recieved a yearly salery of $300,000-$400,000 a year.

Frank, I do not trust Charitys of any kind unless I can with my own eyes see where the money goes and some kind of results from the donations.

I think I disagree with you Frank.

Uh, vesta, madam, dear, you're talking from another solar system again.

I don't see where we disagree at all.

I wouldn't disparage anyone giving anything to the poor, either directly or indirectly through an organization; even watered beans or white bread is at least something, although really, one should try to do better than that.

It's all good.

I however disparage those who think that they're being charitable when they're just throwing away junk, rather than making a real sacrifice.

Charity is when one has only ten dollars for supper, no other money, and then runs into someone who has nothing for supper, in which case one either gives some of the ten dollars to the other person, or all of it.

Charity is not when one has a twenty-dollar bill and plans to spend ten bucks for supper, and then runs into someone, giving him the other ten dollars.  That's just getting rid of superfluous funds, nothing more.

Charity demands sacrifice.

I fully understand that is a rather rigorous, too-strict, almost medieval, idea of charity, and I certainly don't criticize others who give without sacrifice.

However, it's interesting that decent and civilized people, such as the members here, don't act as if it's something special--see ColonialMarine's comment above--it's just something they do, out of natural instinct.

The primitives on the other hand, grate on the nerves, because not only do the primitives think charity is possible without personal sacrifice, but then they go around patting themselves on the back for having given away a pot of beans or unusable office supplies, and think themselves virtuous for it.

It's the same sort of charity franksolich practices, when he takes the household trash here out to the dumpster, nothing more than that.

And boy, is there need.  Dropped off $50 worth of canned goods, box stuffing, etc., a couple of weeks ago.   I think I almost matched what was on the shelves at that time.  Thankfully a lot of the local business and community leaders have stepped up.

Yeah, one recalls the lonestarnut's comment on December 28, 2008, that she hoped the hungry could hold their appetites until January 20, 2009, after which ostensibly the Big Zero would feed the masses.....

I remember reading somewhere recently that conservatives donate some 30% more to charity than Liberals. They specifically pointed out the fact that it was lower to middle class conservatives vs the wealthier Liberals.

The wealthy give  millions to charities  every year but where does it go.??

Easy for them to write a check for $2,000,000 to a cause then to actually take the time to out of their lives to track that money and see just how much is going to the people and how much is going into the pockets of the fund raisers.

Thor and Frank, just look at Haiti today, all that money sent from around the world and millions still live in tent cities.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40802091/ns/world_news-haiti_earthquake/

I just give the things I no longer need to charity, throw in some canned goods or a bag or two of flour [ don't know what they would do with that ]-- a 20 pound bag of rice, and a bunch of stuff I no longer need, perhaps a life saver to someone.

OK get your Bibles out, did not Magaline chastise Jesus for using expensive oil to wash himself,    the money could feed the poor. And did not Jesus come back at her with a " there would all ways be the poor"

OK, DUers. You did $10,000 to feed the hungry. Not too shabby. But can you do...
$15,000?

That's right. We've upped our goal. $15,000 can provide more than 100,000 meals to feed the hungry. Let's make a difference this holiday season.

Of course Head DUmmy Skimmer is lying, but at 15 cents a meal, DUmmy bobbolink better not be too hungry. Wait til she finds out Skimmer is planning to spend three nickels per bum.

Let's hope Skimmer and Lord Marblehead decide to deep fry a big Christmas Butterball down in the basement at the DUmp's palatial headquarters.

I haven't thought about it, but maybe fifteen cents a meal will cover two slices of white bread and a few spoonfuls of beans boiled in water.

Good ole' Chief S itting Bull. Get rid of trash by "donating".
Did you call him on it Frank? How did he know that it was you and got mad about it?
