The next president will almost surely be a woman or a black man. That's **huge**. A black man. Or a woman.

If we're able to do that, why are we not able to have gay marriage?

Why is no one talking about this? Do you think that (anti)gay issues will not once again crop up?

And if we can have a black man or a woman president, why can't two men or two women just get married?

The key word in the above post is almost. And we all know that close only counts in horseshoes.

13. Who cares if it's "ready"? It's long past time, regardless.
 When we get bogged down in wondering if "America" is "ready" for anything, for some reason it tends to degenerate to pandering to the most reactionary common denominator.

There are people in this country still who aren't emotionally "ready" to abolish slavery. There are people in this country who aren't "ready" for the whole idea of laws being based on civil ethics and not one particular politically-influenced translation of an ancient Middle Eastern text...people who slept through the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Tough titties for them.

There are people who don't accept that Bush is president; that doesn't mean it's not true. Just like it's not true that the law is based on the Bible, or should be. Methinks this DUmmie is projecting.

Personal freedom only goes so far. Just because you have the right to own a gun, does that mean you can shoot me any time you feel like it? You only have rights insofar as they don't infringe upon the rights of others. That's a basic civics lesson. And when you want your personal freedom to engage in sodomy to infringe upon my right to attend a church that doesn't agree, and when you want the GOVERNMENT to try and force my church to conform to YOUR personal rights, then the personal freedom fight goes out the window.

These case studies of primitives are based upon elementary Freudian principles; I'm no medical or psychiatric professional, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out Freud.

Damn it, I keep on asking that question myself, especially whenever I see a bonfire started by the prevaricating burdened primitive.

Actually, when thinking of "rights," I'm thinking of things mentioned in the first ten amendments to the Constitution, the Bill of Rights.

Freedom of expression, trial by jury of one's peers, those sorts of things.

I don't see where gays miss out on those things.

Frank, I can give you a springboard for your case study.  

Consider that the primitive DUmmies do not really give a flying fig about the happiness of homosexuals.  Their desire to see legal marriage between people of the same sex is rooted in their desire to make others (normal people) lose the argument - to create a new version of morality, which will hopefully make Christians unhappy.  

The DUmmies' goals are never about raising anyone or any group "up".  It is about bringing their enemies down.  If they accidentally make some degenerate happy in the process, so be it, but that was never the goal.

Yes, they have those rights as well frank. They tend to argue more about the kind of rights I listed and mistakenly assume that the marriage license issued by the State somehow automatically renders these rights. It does not. In fact, it does nothing of the sort. As a married person, I still have to make sure that my name is listed on joint property, insurance and other financial transactions. And I have never been asked to prove that we're married so it doesn't wash when gays so I have gained some access into some automatic married club that makes life easier when doing business or performing any of the tasks I mentioned. I don't get it.

It's kind of sickening the need they have to put people in little boxes. A black man or a woman will be (as if) president...gays don't have rights. Makes me wonder whose side they'd be on if a gay black man murdered a white, lesbian feminist. How would they decide which "group" deserves the most protection, which one has the "truth" behind it. Because we all know truth isn't based on what actually happened, but how we FEEL about it.

I really don't care about consenting adults having gay sex as long as they'd just shut the **** up about it and stop trying to pretend it is somehow more normal than normal, and trying to sell the 'lifestyle' to the young 'uns.  I also see absolutely no reason to give these liaisons the same solemnity or sanctity as marriage since humanity has somehow managed to get along for 7,000-10,000 years without stretching the meaning of that estate that dreadfully far, and there's no foreseeable benefit for society as a whole in doing it, so why should we start now?

i sure as hell dont know. ive been to two gay marriages here in seattle. they were both within the first year we lived here and one of them was sort of a trick; they invited everyone to a party and it turned out to be a wedding.

after we realized it was all a political stunt, we stopped going to weddings altogether
