Vet faces 5 charges in Westboro incident
BY DEB GRUVER AND TIM POTTER
The Wichita Eagle
December 3, 2010

Ryan Newell is "Army to the bone," friends and family say of the decorated military veteran who joined the service at 17, lost both legs in an explosion in Afghanistan and now stands accused of stalking members of a controversial Topeka church.

Proud of his service and proud of his country, he never blamed anyone for his injuries and felt guilty, his grandmother said, that he survived when two of his brothers in combat did not.

Prosecutors charged Newell, 26, with five misdemeanors Thursday, including stalking and three counts of criminal use of a firearm in an incident involving the Phelps family of Topeka's Westboro Baptist Church. He also was charged with false impersonation of a law enforcement officer.

Ryan Newell should not be charged. He should be given a medal for going after the Westboro thugs. Fred Phelps and his thugs should be eradicated along side with Osama bin Laden/Al-Qaeda/Islamists and moonbats.  :argh: :bird:

I hope that the jury acquits him on all charges.

I also hope he doesn't plead out.

I have to be very careful what I write here as I received a PM from one of you beating me up for " threatening to do violence against the Phelps family [If] they demonstrated at my sons funeral.----My son is 100% disabled from his tour of duty , an accident in Alaska so the problem is moot.

Anyway, I wonder how the Phelps knew of him, there has to be a long back story on him and the Phelps.

Don't we have laws that  by word or deed will incite others to violence.??

I had a neighbor whose 20 something year old male child got himself all liquored up and walked through a southern black housing area yelling " Be a man join the clan".   That idiot was beaten half to death and when he pressed charges they were dismissed as he had brought it on himself.  He himself paid a fine for inciting violence.

When actions of someone cause the public to go nuts why do the people that deliberately set out to cause outrage get off free.??

Who is paying for all the extra police protection this family gets at their church and homes---the tax payers naturally.

When added up, the protection they receive for their little road trips that they are aware can cause violence to them and family, a huge amount of money,  They put out the  an invitation for ---hit me, hit me go ahead from a sober man to a drunk or sober man in a bar, your daughters are whores and your wife a slut, go ahead and hit me--- So he gets a punch in the nose and sues the person he picked on, sues the police for not protecting him and the bar he was in.

My blessings go out to Ryan Newell and family, and a thank you for service, and loss of limbs  to protect us and country.

Good point Vesta.

If my son is killed in service to our country and those Phelps idiots show up at his funeral, somebody is gonna get hurt.  I'll probably have to out run my brother to get to 'em 1st.

Their 1st Amendment rights don't extend to inflicting intentional emotion harm to others in my book.

I awoke, hit the brew button on coffee maker and turned on local news.  Half asleep I got bits and pieces of a story that the PHELPS are on their way.

Now I need help from anyone that heard the broadcast on Chanel 9 out of Manchester N.H.

All I can remember is hearing the family plans to picket a grade school play and attend a funeral in Manchester.

I would like to check these people out, really strange that so much evil can rest in the mind and body of perfectally normal looking people.

I would like to ask just a few questions --polite with full respects for their rights.

First would be why the group feels it necessary to attend funerals of complete strangers.  Second would be if they had pickited at the funeral of any female service woman killed overseas.

Any other questions any of you would have for them ????

Have the family contact the Patriot Guard Riders.  They do a good job of keeping the Phelps crowd at bay.

When one of the Phelps family members dies, lets all show up and show our ass.......literally.

Hey, turn about is fair play....do unto others and all that.

Sounds cool Johnny, but how do we do this.?

The Phelps have an agenda to make their evil ideas known, they get permission from each town to picket on behalf of their views.  In no way is this seen as a personal attack on anyone person or family.

Time comes when one of them die, how do we get permission to picket their funeral that is legal.

Johnny they have covered all bases, at no time do they make their protests personal, the Phelps just make an ambiguous statement, not about the individual that died but about what they believe is Gods will.

These people are as slick as Owl Shit.  They know that any anti-family protests will not be allowed as it would be personal and with their lawyers put a stop to any infringement on getting permission to picket one of their own.

Sit back Johnny and try to figure out what anyone can picket on, kind of hard to make this impersonal.

Perhaps getting a licence to picket for anti-American activity's.?  No way that will not go over, a picket to claim that God hates Anti-americans--that may work or not.

We really have little power to stop these people unless we can find a Church that is willing to face law suits form the Phelps, for some little known law that is still on the books.

Johnny, we are ****ed , until someone comes up with a way to legally put these wolves down.

Say hold funerals at night when the people who picket it cannot picket after dark..   Actually I feel that the funeral for a hero should be held at night anyway, The symbolism of going from the light of day to the night of dark, has been held for thousands of years to honor a Hero.--To go from the light of day into the great dark to save us from harm, there is nothing like giving thanks and reverence to the departed then to bury them under the light of the moon with torches alit  and giving good by with the hope of meeting them again somewhere out there in Gods great darkness.

Picket their funeral! By the way, four of Phelpses children; Mark, Nate, Catherine, and Dorotha Phelps, defected because of abuse at the hands of Fred Phelps. Also, some grandchildren left because of all the hate and one was outright casted out. Phelps likes to disown people, including his own father, Fred Phelps Sr., stepmother, Olive Briggs, and younger sister, Martha Phelps Capron. She lives in Pennsylvania and will not grant interviews about her brother because she is afraid of him.

The Phelps clan contains several lawyers, and they will go after anyone that irritates them.  I've never heard of them losing a case, either.  They're a lot like the ACLU, make a lot of their money by winning court cases.

Yes, I have a question you can ask them. If I send them really sharp razor blades, will they use them on their wrists? :naughty:

Good heavens Ptar, the last link you sent was a dozy.  A real life cliff hanger.

I am reminded of Charles Dickens and Bleak House for some reason.

I am curious of where the old Farts wife is today, no easy task raising even one child when the father is a monster much less 13 of them.

Question here, why did the father become disbared.??  Another question is how and what way did so many of his kids get the education to and find the money to go to law school.??

I am curious about the tribe of kids that were so badly treated and those that went on to excel in life and still love the monster and work for him.

Not much makes sense that only 2 males in the family were badly treated when the other 11 seem to have gotten off with little problems.

What 4 kids out of 13 left the family, one even changed their last name.   Then there is the number of kids that work for the State Departments of Corrections.-----What the heck is their Job.??

Please correct me here I got the impression one daughter is a YOGA Instructor, this is in some circles considered Unchristian.----All the Buddist influence as in Karate with the Asian influence.

Strange people, I cannot believe this is anything but a scam, much like the Mega churches who's pastors live in multi million homes and like Swaggert who can do no wrong takes the money and still has thousands of followers.

On Swaggert I believe that when he confessed to his sin with tears in his eyes with wife standing loyally at his side much as a dog, the country was holding their breath waiting for the wife to cold cock the the idiot on TV in front of thousands.------Same with Hillery when her husband betrayed her.

Had Hillery kicked the shit out of Bill on national TV I may have surported her.
