One gets the sense my fellow alum is pretty reluctant to answer most primitive inquiries, but this one, he's happy to.

Is there a place I can go to pick a good DUer in who's name to donate?
   
Somebody did it for me; I want to pay it forward.

But I want a list that's vetted; something like Moderator's favorite people.

A list of members, who don't have stars, but are good solid members of the DU community.

My advice to you is to find someone who posts good stuff and doesn't have a star. Then give them one.
