America is scaring me again.

To think that the US is on the verge of going back on the first signs of progress I have seen in over 10 years is really very frightening. 8 years of Bush not only embroiled the world in 2 dangerous and unnecessary wars but brought the world to the brink of a global depression (word I still out as to whether we have managed to escape that one yet). And lets not forget the wholesale scrapping of social and political freedoms, the open racism, the free flowing hate. Much of this has continued unabated under Obama as well, but for ONCE in over a decade we started to see the US SLOWLY claw its way out of the dark hole it had dug itself. It was slow and painstaking and the gains that have been made have not been without compromises and setbacks, some wins smelling almost more of defeat than victory. I wouldn't call Obama the beacon of hope that everyone had been praying for, he's a politician much like any other. BUT for once we DID start to see progress in the right direction. Now only 2 years into this slow and painful recovery the US seems to be on the verge of throwing it all away a second time. Maybe I see things through tinted glasses viewing things from up here in Canada but the Tea Party and much of it's following seem hard to distinguish from Fascists at times. I hope that in the long run that sanity will win out but that's not the direction I see things headed in. Some times, times like these, America scares me.

(yawn)

1. It scares me too.

Consider yourself lucky you live in a much saner and more humane country than your batshit crazy neighbor to the south. :scared:

3. Your tinted glasses are correct   Updated at 11:25 PM

but I think we are in for a surprise...

Call it the ... minorities and ceil phone effect... and if I am right, the TEA party will have to look for other means, scary yes.

That said this is a proto fascist movement (on a good day) a full fledged fascist movement on a bad day.

You all have been claiming the cell phone effect for as long as they have been around and it has never once proven to be anything but wishful thinking.
Carry on with it though!

6. The problem is "The best lack all conviction, while the worst. Are full of passionate intensity"...

I don't fear the average American you describe. I fear the ones that are actually getting out there to vote. :(

DUmmie said, "Consider yourself lucky you live in a much saner and more humane country than your batshit crazy neighbor to the south."

WHAT? ....was that a dig at Hugo? ....or just what.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Aren't Stephen Harper and the Conservative party still running Canada?

To the lurking DUmbasses

Be afraid........Be very afraid. After tonight your sorry socialst agenda is done, over ,finnished . We will have our country back and on the path it was intended to be. You are in luck. There are still 3rd world shitholes for all of you to run too. Just use your own money to get there this time.
