I still can't get over that "enemies" remark. It's just so... unAmerican. When one is elected POTUS, he becomes prez for all. One country united the best it can. Is he saying that if his approval rating is say 45%, then 55% of the country is his enemy? Astounding. Where is my country?
There's probably a thread on it and I haven't found it....
But...your comments remind me of the discussion on Fox this morning about Obama's comments regarding the Conservatives or Republicans - not sure which one he(Obama) said - that we "need to all move to the back of the bus".
Your comment about "he is the prez for all", apparently does not mean anything to this president.
On Fox this morning, they were talking about his "great campaign speech" that he was going to UNITE this country. I remember seeing that speech and thinking that maybe if he did beat McCain, he might be ok because as a "black" man, he might be more able to unite than previous presidents had been able to do. I was willing to give him a chance
Now....I look at this man, and wonder what has happened to our country. I will be 58 years old in 2 months...and I don't ever remember this country being as divided and things as contentious as they are today....not even during VietNam was there this much hate, ugliness and fear as there is now.
I'm sure there are VietNam vets that would disagree with me...God knows they have every right to say there was a lot of hate directed toward them, personally, back then for no good reason. They didn't have a much of a choice regarding VietNam....it was either go as commanded or run off to Canada....and they were the whipping post of those who disagreed with the war.
But this "hate" today, seems different. Maybe it's the added "fear factor"....fear of losing jobs, homes, terrorist attacks, life in general.
The "ugliness" is different....people are just being ugly to each other. Over political differences, over bumper stickers - seriously, a damn
bumper sticker!?!, what someone's t-shirt says. In the grand scheme of things, most of it's over stuff that at any other time would be considered petty small stuff....as in "don't sweat the small stuff". Is this ugliness a result of the "hate" or does the "ugliness" result in the hate?
Does it all come back to the "fear factor"?
I think it does.
We are in a severe recession...borderline depression really. It's been going on for at least a couple of years, and frankly from my viewpoint as a REaltor, I don't see it ending anytime soon - at least in the housing market.
We are in a war... who knows when it will REALLY end? I might offend some in saying so....but until that whole area of the world is flattened and blacktopped....it may
never end!! Muslims have hated Christians and Jews for centuries....
We fear terrorist attacks on our people and our country. With good reason. They aren't going to give up, and we have a president who wants to sit down and play tiddlywinks with them and let them win! In my oh, so humble opinion...it's just a matter of time, before they hit us again....and I truly believe they won't be satisfied with 4000 Americans this next time. It will be more....many more....and widely scattered across the country...in unexpected places.
We have a president who is supposed to be the "leader of the free world". Dear God, I don't even want him to be
my president, let alone lead the world!
While I don't think that we can put all of our problems on Obama's shoulders, by any stretch of the imagination....I do think we can hold him responsible for creating such extreme divisiveness between the American people.
Two years ago...we had the fear of terrorism. We had the fear of war. We had the fear of the economy.
However.....we did not have the extreme hatefulness and ugliness between each other that we have now. And it only seems to be getting worse.
That hate and ugliness....we CAN put on the shoulders of our president. He is the leader of that hate and ugliness....just listen to what he has been saying in these campaign speeches. He is feeding that hate and ugliness.....every time he opens his mouth.
Rallying people to vote for his party? maybe.
But what he is doing most... is to foster the hate and ugliness.
What a guy! What a leader! What a president!
It makes me so very sad.
And scared.
