Cyrano Donating Member (1000+ posts) Sun Oct-24-10 01:25 PMOSCAR WILDE, THE LARGE-PROBOSCISED PRIMITIVEOriginal messageSome Texans might speak of beating the "fags" from San Francisco. Some San Franciscans might speak of beating the "Neanderthals" from Texas. Both scenarios are stereotypes that hold a grain of truth. Here's what I'm worried about. I really don't want to see Texans waving signs referring to San Francisco gays. And I really don't want to see San Franciscans waving signs referring to Texas Neanderthals.I'm not saying this will happen and I never recall seeing it happen in baseball. But we are in a very strange era with some really weird people running for office. And I never recall such a hate-filled period in America in my lifetime. So can anyone predict what can happen in two socially different cities this time around?Nonetheless, for anyone who is unaware of the tactics of Fox "News" and hate radio, don't be too surprised if even the World Series becomes a political battleground given that we're talking about Texas and San Francisco. But does anyone want to bet that Limbaugh will be unable to refrain from making some disgusting remark about San Francisco?
snooper2 (1000+ posts) Mon Oct-25-10 10:39 AMResponse to Original message 33. This OP is all kinds of ignorant Rangers are going to beat the Giants because it's our year -period-
Does everything with these DUmmies have to be political? Can't they, just for once, sit back with a beer bong, bag of peanuts CHEETOS and enjoy America's great pastime?

Yes, everything has to be political for the DUmmies. The Rangers fans are too classy to hold up signs that are "gay bashing".

cherokeeprogressive (1000+ posts) Mon Oct-25-10 01:54 AMResponse to Original message 28. Congratulations. You've just become the FIRST PERSON to make the World Series "political". And partisan. I lean at least as far left as most other people I know. I'm rooting for the Rangers though, as it's their first time in the World Series. Your post makes the point that people rooting for the Rangers should be seen as the enemy because the Rangers aren't from San Francisco, and for purely political reasons; even though you "never reacall seeing it happen in baseball".Are you saying that the World Series hasn't been played between socially different cities before? Tell me, how many World Series have there been? And, do you TRULY believe that just because there hasn't been this kind of angry period in your lifetime, this is the most hateful period there's ever been? Lastly, I don't think signs of any kind will be allowed in the ballparks of either team. Whatever signs might make it through the turnstyles probably won't make it to air because of the delay in the broadcast. That means that lots and lots of people like me, more than you can imagine, will eat peanuts, drink our beverage of choice, and root for "Our Team" without a care toward any connection between "our" team and any political ideology whatsoever. As Baseball Fans, "Our Regular Season Team" is probably comprised of a large number of players born outside of this country, and that applies to each and every team in Major League Baseball. I've never seen a person of either political stripe make politics a reason for supporting "Our Team". And when that person does raise his/her head and speak out, I'll say they aren't really "Baseball Fans".Gongrats. You made it political. I'm over that now though, and once again see the World Series as a game played between very good teams, and even though "My Team" isn't playing, I'll root for one certain team using purely non-political criteria to make up my mind about who's going to be "My World Series Team".Go Rangers.P.S... Oh hell. Never mind...
I don't ever recall politics being part of the World Series. Maybe when the American Indians were upset at the Braves' fans using the tomahawk chop, but that was pretty benign. To be fair, most of the DUmmies think that the original poster Cyrano is off his/her rocker.

I'm as conservative as can be, but I will absolutely be rooting for the home team. Go Giants!

Skinner ADMIN (1000+ posts) Mon Oct-25-10 12:02 PMResponse to Original message 42. If any moronic baseball fan does make that kind of bigoted remark... ...then you will, of course, be welcome to discuss it here.Until then, I'm not sure this serves any purpose.
Good find Tots! I read this last night and enjoyed some of the reasoned responses. This Cyrano Dummie is truly ridiculous.Oh- and GO RANGERS!!
"The nation that couldn’t be conquered by foreign enemies has been conquered by its elected officials" odawg Free Republic in reference to the GOP Elites who are no difference than the Democrats
I have a couple of questions:What is this "baseball" of which the DUmbshits speak? How many yards long is a "baseball" field? How many 1st Downs are there in a "baseball inning"
I'm not a Baseball fan by any means. I find it to be Boring. But after reading this thread I now want to attend a game with a Smear The Queers banner. Jus cuz I want to see the heads asplode.
