Just wondering here because I am kind of confused.  I have my dog on a 30' light weight cable in the front yard.  She has an outside doggy bed in the middle of the driveway because that is where she likes to sleep, clean water, a covered porch when it rains, chew toys, and rawhides out there with her.  She has a schedule she likes and spends most daylight hours outside (except in winter).  Is that cruel?  I didn't think of it as cruel but I am dense sometimes.

I saw Eat, Pray, Love with some friends, and it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

I heard about the book a while back, so I bought it recently and just started reading it.  I have no desire to see the movie, I think Julia Roberts was a bad fit.  I haven't really cared for her much anyway.

I don't want to say that you are cruel to your pet. I wouldn't do that, but then again all of my pets are indoor pets, until they want to go outside (fenced in of course). What you describe is nothing like I saw next door to my parents. This dog was always tangled up, couldn't reach her food OR water, and no attention EVER. However, I do believe dogs need plenty of running space. I had a cable wire that you could put in the ground. I would use that when we lived at an apartment and cooked out when my doggie wanted to be outside with us. She flopped around like a fish at first, but then she got used to it after a while. But I only used that for 30 or so minutes.

And yes Evil Conservative, these people had kids. The mother was terrified (and I mean TERRIFIED) of dogs. I am not sure who talked her into getting this dog, but she went with it. This was a yellow beautiful lab. This same woman freaked out when we had a puppy outside. The puppy (brand-new pup) scared her. They had no business ever getting a dog.  I hope they learned their lesson. Poor dog. Too bad she was the lesson.

My county passed an ordinance that requires you to have your dog on a chain, a leash or in a pen at all times.....damn cats are free to climb on you car/truck at all time though.

I love dogs but don't have one any more. Keeping a yard dog, family pet confined/chained just doesn't sit well with me.

Vesta, ask your husband about ball caps. After all, they ARE part of the Navy working uniform..

With all the changes in the military I would not be surprised to find the work uniform is now allowed to be worn OFF base.

Another pet peeve of mine is men and boys that do not remove their cover when they enter a home, restaurant, Church, funeral or wedding.

Sitting in a Chiefs club many years ago I had noticed a beautiful brass bell hanging above the bar.   As I was speaking to Hubby I noticed the bar keep running flat out to ring the bell.  Every one at the bar let out a loud cheer.  What the heck was going on, seems a Chief had walked in, seen an old shipmate and had forgotten to remove his hat.

He had to buy the bar a round of drinks for that tradition.

Navy brat, wife and mother to lonely sailors away from home for the first time, I realised the power of keeping the traditions alive.

With out tradition to follow there is confusion in life.

I get all upset when the National Anthem is played and grown men keep their hats on, I have finally realised that there are thousands of men and boys out there that never had a mother to teach them proper behavior.

We no longer teach respect for others or anything and the tipping of a hat to show respect for a woman is long gone.

They're kind of a cross between the dungaree uniform and the uniforms of the 70s. And now they're going to some sort of blue camo. Blue Camo?!?!?!?  Seriously?? What are they camouflaging themselves from?? The ocean ?!?!?!? I wonder what the "floatability" of the new camo uniforms is??

Dogs have to be contained in my county as well. But most people have fenced in back yards. We have a fenced in back yard and a doggie door. My dog goes out as he pleases. We also walk him to make sure he gets his exercise. He's a big ole dog and needs plenty of exercise. He's gotten a little chunky. And by chunky, I totally mean fat.

Nope.  haha

I do not have perfect grammar, but those two things really bug me.  Not sure why, probably because it's such an elementary school thing.  Everyone should know the difference.

You're right. This isn't exactly advanced linguistics. I think reading too many bad posts online has debased my standards.

You know what else bugs me? Ever watch Judge Judy? The litigants keep using the pluperfect instead of the simple past out of, I suppose, some idiotiic idea that saying "I had deposited the money" makes the statement somehow deniable in some judicial sense, which is pure dopiness if that's what they're thinking--it's too prevalent to just be bad education. Use the simple past, idiots! Arg! Say it with me now...say it...I know you can do it..."I deposited the money." Good, that was good. Now we're going to practice our not-saying-had drills.

OH NO, foghorn has something against men that wear skirts and dresses.

If the sight of a fat man in a skirt offends you, stay out of Hawaii, those Samoans wearing their lava-lava skirts bare chested will make you blind for a few hours.

The Scott and the Irish with their mini skirts called Kilts, don't pick a fight with them man, they will make Haggis out of YOU.

Arabs wear long dresses as do Priests and the Monks in Asia.

What branch of the Muslim faith do you dislike, they have as many sects and off shoots as the Christian faith.

Indonesia has as many Muslims  as most anywhere in the world.  How come the majority of them are peacefull and as unalike from the Middle Eastern faith as The Quakers are from the holey Rollers with their snakes etc.

Sorry Fog Horn, you come off as a closed minded person who 150 years would be firm in the belief that the only good Indian is a dead Indian.
