Chrysler Auto Workers Busted (drinking and smoking)
« on: September 23, 2010, 01:26:00 PM »
Quote
myFOXDetroit.com Staff - We're all rooting for the auto industry to come back stronger than ever. It affects every one of us here in metro Detroit and across the country because it's so important to our economy.

Fox 2's Rob Wolchek got a tip about what some guys are doing at Chrysler's Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit. This is the same plant that President Barack Obama visited back in July and talked about the significance of manufacturing in America.

The same place where the President remarked on the tax-payer generated government loan saying "I believed that if each of us were willing to work and sacrifice in the short term -- workers, management, creditors, shareholders, retirees, communities -- it could mark a new beginning for a great American industry. And if we could summon that sense of teamwork and common purpose, we could once again see the best cars in the world designed, engineered, forged, and built right here in Detroit, right here in the Midwest, right here in the United States of America."

There's a video at the link of the workers drinking and smoking pot during their break.  They scatter like Rats when the camera confronts them.

Nothing new for the UAW brothers. When my dad worked as a temp. at the OKC GM plant, he said that he knew of several workers in his area that used to go toke it up on the roof during their 15 minute breaks.

I would think that they shouldn't be eligible for unemployment.

That's up to the state to determine, but I would agree with you.

Depends on how the Union and the Company came to agreement.

May be the company separated them for lack of work---They then get unemployment.

Then what is to stop the company from hiring them back after 4 weeks.?

The 2 who were retained and disciplined, would be nice to know who they know in the Union.

Doesn't matter.  If they were fired for cause (even in a right-to-work state like MI) it's almost a given they cannot draw UEI.

Stupid, stupid move on their parts.  You would think in a state with 15 percent unemployment they wouldn't be doing shit like this and risking their jobs.

ETA: And Vesta, if workers violate FFD rules or other alcohol/drug use policies, the union will pretty much step out of the way.  Even the UAW isn't THAT stupid.

How then Sparky do you explain the 2 workers that were not fired?

I have no dout that the 13 that were fired will have to tough it out without drugs for a few weeks to pass the piss test to be rehired.

Yet, the DUmmies think all would be well if pot were legalized.  I'm pretty sure that most corporations would keep their current drug testing in place, just for safety's sake and insurance purposes.

Do I ****ing look like I work for Chrysler?  Go ask them!

And no, I doubt they'll be offered another job at that plant.  Industrial environments look very dimly upon people who were let go from their previous job for FFD issues.

The interesting thing is its 13 workers that got caught. How many of them didn't get wrapped up in the net? If I was in charge of any of the big 3 car makers there would be a mandatory piss test as soon as I could make it happen.

Hell, this is nothing new. In the early 80's I was on a fumigation crew. One of the first jobs we did was at the Port of Sacramento (pallets of bagged rice, about 100K tons worth). As you can probably guess it was Unionized. The forklift drivers who were stacking the rice for us, were allowed BY CONTRACT to have a six pack of beer on the lifts and drink while working.   :thatsright:
