HACKENSACK — A squirrel’s fatal encounter with a utility pole caused a car fire in the city Sunday morning, officials said.Hackensack police were notified around 7:30 a.m. that a car was burning on Elm Avenue, said Sgt. James Prise. Police and fire units arrived to find a four-door Acura engulfed in flames with a power line hanging next to the car, Prise said. The car was unoccupied, Prise said, and the fire department extinguished the flames.Everton Scott, a spokesman for Public Service Electric & Gas, said that a squirrel found dead at the scene apparently caused the power line to fall, which in turn sparked the car fire. Animals can short out electrical lines when they make contact with two wires at the same time, Scott said. About 89 customers in the area lost power for a few minutes as a result of the incident, Scott said.
Squirrels are evil too besides rabbits, stoats, and gyrfalcons.
WHAT, pray tell, besides ptarmigans are NOT on your hit list, dear heart?
BACON! Duh! Well, at least I hope so.
You'd be amazed what'll trip a transformer off line. When I was in Guam, ONE brown tree snake falling across transformer windings or power lines would turn half the friggin island dark. More than once.
