The nation's largest federal worker union is taking to the airwaves to defend rank and file federal workers against growing anti-government sentiments. The American Federation of Government Employees plans to air a 60-second radio ad on stations across the country. The ad stars AFGE President John Gage and workers from the Bureau of Prisons, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Social Security Administration, telling listeners to "trust me" as they carry out their work."Some polls say Americans don't trust government, but listen to our members, the real people who work hard for you everyday," Gage says at the start.
Saying: "Trust us. We work for you." WaPo

Are Public Sector Workers Overcompensated?Several analyses of average wages and benefits in the public and private sectors reveal that state and local government workers earn more than private sector workers. According to the most recent Employer Costs for Employee Compensation survey from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of December 2009, state and local government employees earned total compensation of $39.60 an hour, compared to $27.42 an hour for private industry workers-a difference of over 44 percent. This includes 35 percent higher wages and nearly 69 percent greater benefits.Data from the U.S. Census Bureau similarly show that in 2007 the average annual salary of a California state government employee was $53,958, nearly 32 percent greater than the average private sector worker ($40,991). In addition, as noted by reporter and Calpensions.com blogger Ed Mendel........more at the link.
To say nothing of them making 40% more in wages and bennies compared to us poor workin' stiffs in the private sector! Not only that, we've lost 3 million jobs while the gubmint sector has actually increased! The whole story will reeeeeeeealy piss ya off! Here's the Link!!!
I had 400% better and free benefits when I worked in the private sector a few years ago. My benefits suck today with the goverment, as for pay, hell I make less now than I did then. Though will have to say that this is the first employer I've had that actually awarded me for my military service.
"The nation that couldn’t be conquered by foreign enemies has been conquered by its elected officials" odawg Free Republic in reference to the GOP Elites who are no difference than the Democrats
Rush was talking about this today, how the private sector is making 1/4 of what federal workers make and we're the ones funding them.
I'm pretty sure gubmint worker does not include those in the military. We're talkin' bureaucrats, pencil pushers, and maintenance.
Very true. Them and their "gold plated" pensions! Gotta love the gubberment.
It's been all over Fox the last couple of days, too, on various shows.
